I believe the proper term for this type of rice is called Calrose rice which is grown primarily in the state of California. The real actual Japonica rice grown in Japan is sold mostly within Japan only. Calrose rice is also popularly used by most commercial Sushi eateries here in Malaysia for making nigiri, maki rolls, as well as assorted sea weed rolls.
