Digitised from a crumbling cassette tape, this is Keith Moon performing a comedy routine for an uncompleted album, circa 1974-6. The producer of the piece, John Walters, played this on his BBC Radio 1 show 'Walters' Weekly' in 1981 which is when I taped it.
As far as I can tell, this recording hasn't resurfaced anywhere so here it is in all its hissy medium wave majesty for anyone who wants to hear it.

This is amazing! I'm not sure if I should be proud or a little scared that I'm distantly related to Keef lol. I have to say that he surely was possessed of the same mad genius that the likes of Spike Milligan and others had. Indeed, in British humour circles, madness and humour go hand in hand and there's often a very thin line between them. This is pure brilliance. As soon as he said the word p*ssy, I thought it might go a completely different way though lol

Well, drumming for The Who takes up a lot of time. If he didn't die he would have stayed drumming with the band, obviously drumming is what Moon was best at, BUT if the Who disbanded, I'm sure he would have developed his other talents more.

Thank you for saving it, now back it up, because the future will see him in a much higher regard than now. Like how one listens to the recordings of the Smithsonian folk ways library of congress of the joking around jazz men also held in much higher regard than when they lived and recorded in the twenties and thirties. I bet this is the only one tape left. Make it tangible, and multiply, will you, that's a good chap.

If only he’d got some proper help. If it wasn’t for dodgy Harley Street doctors willing to take a back hander and prescribe drugs that needed to be given in a controlled setting instead of letting Keith medicate himself. If he’d continued as an alcoholic, he’d probably lived long enough to get himself into the Priory or the Betty Ford clinic. We all know he became a bit of an arsehole at times but there was so much more going on in his mind than we knew. He was crying out for help but because he was Keith, nobody had the guts to tell him straight.
