Ulli Sambar
Ingredients
1) Tuvar Dal - 1cup
2) Shallots (Small Onion) - ½ kg
3) Tomatoes - 3 to 4 medium (250gm)
4) Green Chilli - 3 to 4
5) Turmeric powder - ½ tsp
6) Salt - to taste
7) Tamarind - Gooseberry size
8) Sambar powder - ¼ cup
Seasoning
9) Oil - 1 tbsp
10) Fenugreek - ½ tsp
11) Mustard - 2 tsp
12) Red chilli - 3 to 4
13) Curry leaves - 3 twigs
For Garnishing
14) Ghee -1 to 2 tsp
15) Coriander leaves - ½ tsp
Preparation
1) Pressure cook tuvar dal well & slightly mushy and keep aside.
2) Pressure Cook the veggies (items 2-4) with salt and turmeric powder up to 2 whistles only.
3) Open and boil with tamarind juice& the boiled dal well.
4) Add the sambar powder made into a paste with water and boil well.
5) Season with the ingredients given followed by adding the garnish.
