Word Up! I'd say If you got it you got it! It's Not really "knowledge" to this sh*t like knowing how to Play Piano and such. If your ears are abled to hear raw diamonds to be flipped into a shining badass on some Drums ... It's done with only a bit of practice. All in all: This MPC X SE is dope and I'm also looking Forward to buy mine, now after the 2000xl, Renaissance and the sp12 turbo, I want to use that hot Tool! Peace to all of you!

I’m with him in this, the older ones are great and all but I’d rather have the modern workflow and features. Though I’ll admit that just having this or any other modern MPC/gear won’t automatically make you a dope producer. If you can make a banger on a Windows XP pc with Fruity Loops 7, more power to you

I agree… I had a number of the classic MPC’s, starting with the 3000 the year they were released. I wouldn’t mind having another 3000 or 2KXL around for nostalgic moments, but if I could only have one it would be the Live2 Retro or X SE. The current work flow is much better, and the Live 2 is super convenient. There’s also a number of ways to compensate for perceived differences in sound quality.

This is a great review! But what’s crazy is when I see videos like the alchemist and araab muzik still using the mpc 2500 and still putting out bangers. At the end of the day i just how the music sounds out those speakers not what type of machine is being used. It’s always the man behind the machine not the other way around
@cookinsoul Жыл бұрын
These machines won’t help you make better beats . They can only make the proccess easier as technology advances but you are 100% correct. A sampler does always the same thing workflow might be different but the results are 100% depending on the person behind the machine

I know but I don't like the results as much as doin it myself but yes that option is there. I would prefer to have it already integrated on pad perform mode so you can listen to the humanize feel in the chords and it records it right away instead of the after "post" results. Something like what ripchord does would be great to have.

So what I do for stems, is I modified Mixxx to trigger spleeter, then save the stems in mp3 library and remapped the DDJ400 buttons so the sampler buttons change the track to the aprioate stem, convenient , but I agree would be more convenient to have it in the sampler but I suspect it would need the whole track in the sampler to do it well.
@cookinsoul Жыл бұрын
You can use serato dj or studio and record the stems directly live into the mpc. Its 2023 we need the stem separation option inside the mpc directly. Akai needs to make that happen asap

Respect for the review. Everyone has their preferences so all good. The 3000 is my favorite as no other MPC has matched its sound quality. The X overall is solid and always has been since it first dropped, but I would've expected more from Akai for the 35th anniversary of the MPC. I'm sure if they make an MPC6000, we will then see stems as a feature 😁. Salute 💯

I have one coming this week. I've noticed that the biggest haters on YT, are people without one. It's easy to feel greasy when you don't have one. I get that they're expensive and you can get the OG X for cheap, plus the keys has the 4GB ram, and it's going for real cheap, but I plan on using this as my center piece, to control/sample my other hardware. I own 9 other samplers, including the Live 2, and none of them have what the X SE has. I only hope that Akai gives us buyers some perks, since we are forking out more for the X SE than any other MPC buyer. I already own between 10-20k in plugins, so their plugins aren't exactly my best plugins. I also own over 10 synths from the OB-X8, to Multiple Moogs like the Matriarch, Sub 37, and Grandmother, to Waldorf Iridium Keys. It would be cool if Akai went left field, and made some plugins that can manipulate samples like RX10 or RipX. Or focused more on people who have other hardware, that wants to use the MPC X SE as the brains to everything. I know they already do this, but it would be cool to see Akai do something different and special, that made integration between gear amazing. If I could say anything negative, I would have liked to see more midi outs and audio ins, so this could pretty much be used as a mixer too. That would have really made the price make more sense. I own the Tascam Model 16, and from what I understand, I can use that as more inputs, but I haven't done enough research on it. I guess it has to do with the USB. I just ordered a new pair of monitors, so I may just use the Model 16 specifically for the X SE. The only thing about that is I like to sample from the Model 16 from the AUX out, into samplers. I'm not sure if my other interfaces can match the sound of the Model 16, but I guess I'll just use them instead.

Akai sells old wine in new coils... If you already own the OG MPC X there' s no need to upgrade. If you run out out of RAM on the former models equipped with 2GB of RAM, just make a creative decision and use the "bounce to sample" feature. Also, they could have given the chassis and the transport buttons an overhaul. The OG X and the X SE use basically the housing of the MPC Renaissance which was introduced in 2012. I' ll stick with my MPC One Retro for now.

the new line of MPCs have a flat sound just like you'll get from any software Daw. They don't have analog outputs or inputs you don't get any special warm or textured sound like some of the old gear. However you can easily add anything you want to the sound adding vsts inside the mpc or any other daw. I always do that on my mix and mastering no matter what gear I use, old or new, so it does not bother me. I can understand some ppl might still prefer the analog sound coming straight from the machine. It just depends, but you can achieve pretty good results using vsts if you know what you doin. Nowadays I value a better and faster workflow since like I said I always end up molding the sound with vsts for mix and mastering.

Thx for your review! ❤ My Opinion: My expectations were far below. Akai released the MPC X in 2017 and 6 years later, Akai gave the MPC X SE 4GB of RAM instead of 2GB and 48GB of internal storage instead of 16GB. Very generous at current memory prices. Add to that the insane price. I am really disappointed. I bought the MPC X for 1800€ at release. The MPC X Special Edition currently costs €2400. 600€ more for 2GB RAM, 32GB internal memory, different colors and some plugins.

Question: your shit always sounds on point. As far as the new MPCs go. When you mix, in regards to gain staging, or whatever, or you doing any gain staging in the MPC software, then bouncing, etc? Are you doing the bounce to seq and explode drums from song mode to seq or are you just 2 tracking each track by soloing each track and bouncing each individually? This is the main thing I am trying to figure out. Would really appreciate a little guidance on this.
