Funny Patrick! In Portland we rarely have snow problems so good question. Thx for commenting & watching! Lets see what our friends a ShadeFX has to say about that: Louvered Roof: Louvered roofs are for sun and rain protection and some can handle snow loads. However, they should not be operated during freezing weather. If the structure is built in front of large windows and the louvers are closed with snow on top, it will prevent sunshine from warming the interior of the building.

Sounds great that you would consider a design internationally well we have a new build going on with sea views from the back yard so the house is designed for the view. We are working to a budget so we are trying to have destinations with out cutting out the great views, any ideas ?

This is nice, but what if it snows in your area? Is this strong enough to hold snow?

Hi Ann's Decor - there are some louvered pergolas that can withstand snow - we mentioned it in an earlier comment - but is a louvered pergola the best idea for you? There are many awnings that pull completely to one side or manually pull back. Perhaps putting your $ to another yard element might be a better option?
