It's certainly better to wear a ten-year-old helmet than no helmet at all, but technically, helmets have expiration dates. Also, they're only really good for one hard fall on the head and should be replaced afterwards, because the internal structure that absorbs the shock is probably cracked and won't work as well the next time you decide to use your face as a brake. Just FYI. Do what thou wilt.

There's some listings for hexagon shaped ferro rods, which could be angled to grind across the whole face (also allowing you to protrude only a slight amount, giving a better surface to put load against), a symmetrical hexagon would be the best option for multiple uses. Also drilling and threading holes into the face could be useful for grub screws to go deep, stay clear of wearing down, and allowing an external mounting method.

With the multiple short rods poking straight out of the thing, there is a lot more surface area to secure them. Also when they wear, it doesn't affect the attachment point. I see other people are mentioning this too, with much more clarity as well :)

Cutting the rod into multiple shorter pieces (4 or 5), and mounting them perpendicular instead of in parallel, would eliminate most of the issues that you ran into. However, this would require a sacrificial print to hold the shorter rods, and it would need to have an adjustable gap between itself and the bottom of the board in order to work with rotating the nuts. You could do this with small adjustable bolts between each of the rods. While this would add some calibration work, it should be minimal, and allow for repeatable results throughout the life of sacrificial print and the rods.

A question about the 360 camera and video taken by it: do the fence you were riding by really has wavy top, and not straight top? Because if it was flat, then the spherical aberration removal and AI in-painting of cameras blind spot needs some work. About scanning the skateboard - wouldn't it be easier to use one of 3D scanning apps for smartphone: iOS or Android (for example the one Corridor Crew uses)?

In a soft shell helmet like that, there will be no change in the function or safety. The outer shell is designed to slide on the pavement and prevent cuts/gripping the pavement and causing neck damage. The shell holds soft, reusable foam inserts which grip and cushion the head from impacts. You can take multiple falls in these helmets without having to replace them, perfect for skateboarding. Hard foam/shell helmets like bicycle helmets are not meant for multiple impacts, but to save you from that one BIG one. Once you have a crash in a hard foam helmet, it's best to replace it immediately.
@Jehty_2 жыл бұрын
@@TBcinema you mentioned the huge problem with what he did, but somehow didn't realize it. The helmet is meant so slide. With all the ridges in it it will no longer slide like it was designed. So no, I don't think the helmet is safe anymore.
@TBcinema2 жыл бұрын
@@Jehty_ this is a misunderstanding. The nicks he's created in this helmet are not into a different material. These do not go into the foam. They are drawn into a cheaper form of the plastic, black, dyeless. The shell is the same material throughout. It will not cause him any more harm than actually falling. Any solid horizontal crash is going to cause damage all too similar to this with no need to replace the helmet. Soft helmets are meant for certain applications. Slow speed falls like in this video are nothing for a helmet like that, or say triple 8 (helmet, knee pads) mentioned in this video. @TBcinema2 жыл бұрын
@@Jehty_ the outer surface I was referring to encapsulates the shell as whole, versus the shell and foam. The shell will slide regardless as it is usually made out of UHPE, like a cutting board. The colored Grey portion is merely an aesthetic addition to sell helmets. It is all the same polymer that is also used in slide gloves. Hard helmets are like airbags, need to be replaced after use. Soft helmets are like a car bumper, capable of multiple hits.
