Artist, Instructor and Silhouette Curio expert, Cindy Pope started out with Precious Metal Clay Rio certification and metalsmithing classes and is one of Hadar Jacobson’s first Cadre of Base Metal Accredited teachers. In this video, Cindy switches gears from using the Silhouette Curio™ to creating a simple fold over ring using EZ960 Sterling Silver Clay. She adds a repeating texture using one of our Rollable Texture Tiles. This ring has endless design options!

Wonderful! Would a pasta machine work instead of the mats!
@cooltoolsvideos
@cooltoolsvideos 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Colleen, Technically you could use a pasta machine to roll out silver clay. We don't recommend them as pasta machines are sometimes not precise enough to get to the thickness needed. Thanks for your question!

Love that ring, can you fire that with torch ?

Hi Elizabeth, EZ960 Sterling requires firing in a kiln. We like to recommend the Evenheat Kingpin 88 for firing metal clay. You can find it here: www.cooltools.us/Evenheat-Kingpin-88-p/kln-971-p.htm Thank you for watching!

Thankyou for the video .Is there a silver clay that does not require a kiln?
@cooltoolsvideos
@cooltoolsvideos 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Carrie, there are some fine silver clays that do not require a kiln; however, there are currently not any sterling silver clays, which are recommended for ring making. Sterling Silver is recommended for ring making due to its strength. If you are interested in investing in a kiln, there are table top kilns available. We like to recommend the Kingpin 88 as it is what we use in our studio and less expensive compared to other models: www.cooltools.us/Evenheat-Kingpin-88-p/kln-971-p.htm Hope this helps!

Thank you for the great video, Cindy. Can you fire rings without using ring shrinkage stopper inserts?
@cooltoolsvideos
@cooltoolsvideos 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Lisa, yes, you can, you would just need to calculate the shrinkage of the clay and factor this into the size you want.

Is EZ960 more flexible than Art Clay silver after drying? Or can the same technique be used on Art Clay silver?

Hello, yes, EZ960 is more flexible than Art Clay Silver after drying. We do not recommend Art Clay Silver for this project.

Am I understanding correctly that I need a kiln to finsh silver clay designs? If so what type of kiln do I need? If that info is already here I can't find it.
@cooltoolsvideos
@cooltoolsvideos Жыл бұрын
Yes, to fire EZ960, or any sterling silver clay, a kiln is required. We recommend the Paragon SC2, which is a table top kiln: www.cooltools.us/Paragon-SC2-Kiln-p/kln-101-p.htm If you are firing fine silver clay, such as Art Clay Silver, this can be fired with a torch. We recommend checking out our Learning Center to learn more about metal clay: www.cooltools.us/Metal-Clay-s/2330.htm If you ever have any questions we are always happy to help! Contact us at sales@cooltools.us or 888.478.5060.

Hi Marzia, Cindy rolls the clay around the mandrel very gradually. At 15:06 you can watch how she does this. Hope this helps!

I tried this and followed the instructions to the T. The ring broke and broke and broke. Ended up with a bunch of junk. Very disappointment.@@cooltoolsvideos

My read on this which is not said in the video is you need to do this with a very big ring size. Smallish ring size and this simply does not work, although perhaps with thinner clay. I've broken a couple now at size 8.5 (to shrink to a 6.5) and went MUCH slower and gradual than what she shows and they broke anyway. HUGE clay waste each time.

How many rings can be made with 15 grams? I love this, but it is very expensive to do all the time.
@cooltoolsvideos
@cooltoolsvideos 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Glenna, the ring amount would depend on the size of each ring, including the width, ring size and thickness. Have a good day!
