I've looked almost everywhere, but do you think that taking acrylic paint to the back of the cutting board, in whatever color after the decal has dried, would keep it from being ruined overtime instead of using epoxy or resin?

I've been struggling with waterslide for years starting with Lazertran inkjet. Had good success with it on painted wood once. But since then the film falls apart or easily scratches off. Since most of my projects are preferably print projects, I am always looking for methods of transfer to various surfaces...mostly canvas. Thx for sharing your method.

I have had better luck (applying the regular way) if I seal with several layers of clear spray paint, allowing each layer to dry before the next. Recently, I tried sealing with a few layers of clear, then a few layers of PlastiDip Glossifier. That gave it a bit of a rubbery coating and I was able to work with it a lot without it tearing or the ink coming off. Maybe try that to see if it helps on your projects.

I'm trying very hard to put a full waterslide wrap on a tumbler. No matter how many times I try to get it on, it's wrinkling some and leaving a few air bubbles. I have tried and tried to get them out to no avail without tearing the waterslide and ruining it. I have sealed it 3 times with Rustoleum two times clear as well as doing a few coats of plastidip. Once I epoxy will it conceal the wrinkles and air bubbles any at all? I'm desperately trying to do this and getting very frustrated. Thank you for any help.

@FireDogGifts4 жыл бұрын
I'm sorry I missed this. I haven't tried baking waterslide but you probably could do that. I'm using epoxy, it was to put the glitter on, but you could probably spray the glitter spray on it for a little sparkle and cover that with clear spray paint. There are other things you can do instead of using epoxy, as well. I didn't end up try it, but I thought frosted glass sprayed on the back would look good, too.

@craftingwithlora1443 жыл бұрын
I have seen people use waterslide on ceramic coffee mugs and they bake them in the oven to "cure" them. I did try it once, but not with this method. I tried it the traditional way to apply waterslide. Personally, I don't see the waterslide staying on mugs long term, after repeated washes. So, I never really got in to doing those.
@glutenfreeappletree3 жыл бұрын
I used a clear waterslide laser paper with black ink only since I don't own a color printer. I applied the waterslide to a ceramic mug and let dry, then sealed with ModPodge dishwasher safe coating. It's a special ModPodge and sometimes I find it at Joann's. It works great, but I usually recommend hand washing.

Does it matter what side of the decal sticks to the glass? Isn't the backing of the print supposed to adhere and not the front? It seems like this method causes the spray to adhere and not the decal itself. Although it's a great hack I'm confused about the process.
@MadeWithMummyLove2 жыл бұрын
That’s the question I came here looking for. I agree with you surely the printed side that’s been sealed is now on the back of board and when you remove the paper backing you’d be left with the sticky residue that is meant to be put on the surface?? How do you remove the sticky from now the back of the board as that’s the side that is meant to adhere to the surface?
@megannelson78832 жыл бұрын
Yes, was thinking the same thing. I’m confused.
@coleenehase15009 ай бұрын
@@MadeWithMummyLove literally came for this question, sad there is no answer for it.
@jolyonjenkins9474 ай бұрын
@@coleenehase1500 My answer, having tried it, is that it doesn't work. You are trying to stick the wrong side and the sticky side is left face up. You can try spraying it with varnish, but the sticky surface doesn't like it. MAYBE if you left it for a long time, so the bond was really strong, you could remove the unwanted adhesive with a solvent but the plastic of the decals is very fragile and lots of solvents would just dissolve it
@craftingwithlora1446 жыл бұрын
The clear gloss spray paint becomes the glue when its pressed on when the spray paint is still tacky. You then put epoxy/glitter mixture over the backside and you're set

@kenaw24706 жыл бұрын
I was wondering the same, that the side where the backing is, is where the waterslide needs to stick. When i do water slide, i usually place the backing on the product, and gently slide the backing from underneath the image.
@cheryls20226 жыл бұрын
@@kenaw2470 I think it's because she put the image on the underside of the glass (like you would mirror HTV) . She's got it going on "backwards" , but from the front it looks correct. You couldn't do this with a solid color plate or mug.
@RainorShine16 жыл бұрын
Yes thats how you would normally but on a waterslid, butt she made a mistake, when she put a clear coat of waterslid she help the cutting plate over it and to see how it would look and without thinking she pressed down and the clear coat wasnt dry so it stuck on the glass plate, she didnt want to throw it out so she decided to test and see if backin of water slide would come off and did so she saved her project. Might not been correct way but still looks good n awsome and not wasted her project either.

On curve surfaces, it will wrinkle. If you keep working it, you can usually work the wrinkles out, but, you risk rubbing your ink off if it's not sealed well. You could try cutting small slits in it up to where the ink starts. You can go smaller with your design or if possible, print design in sections so you can apply smaller pieces individually.
