I'm South Indian Tamil by birth. Today I bow my head with my two hands together and I pray 🙏🏽 giving thanks to my Indian - possible ancestors. They have endured great suffering in their journey of life and in their suffering they have given me an opportunity in my life. May they RIP. The word ‘Coolie’ is definitely nothing to be ashamed off or embarrassed about, it basically means ‘Hard worker’. If anything, the Europeans should be ashamed as to the suffering they have caused the world, they have tried to empower the whole world due their greedy. This video should go viral and should be education for all.

As an Irish person you should also know how 'The English' practiced their methods in Ireland first. Enslaved 'Red Shanks' sent off to the Barbadoes. Strip the land of indigenous wood for ship building. Take the land and rent it back to the natives. There was no understanding of 'Rent' in Ireland so much so that when they had no money to pay they used to say 'Tá me in arrears' (I am in arrears). Language and culture outlawed.

Best documentary ever! I am sure it took this man a lot of courage to make this documentary. This documentary needs to be shown in india because they are still suffering from mental slavery. Its good to know your history no matter how awful and in human that was so you can truly honor your ancestors who endured all that so you can be where your are today. My fellow Indians, don't be ashamed from that. Endangered laborers is a fantasy word for slavery. It debilitate you from having a power to fight for justice that's why most Indians never fought or revolted against the systemic slavery their ancestors endured. You can call blacks all the names you want, but they are the strongest people ever. They fought slavery and are not ashamed to tell their stories. They paved the way for injustice to be brought to light. For me endangered is even worst because the Indians think they are better because they are getting paid ( if you considered that a pay) while in reality its a system to create a division between the Indians slaves and the Africans slaves not to unite against the British colony because one slave thinks he is better then the other, but in British mind BOTH ARE THE SAME= SLAVES. Education means nothing if you don't have the knowledge.

Wonderfully put Victoria. It's the divide and conquer mentality. Quick we need a diversion to keep the Indians and Africans from uniting against us said British forces. Indian indentured labourers pay smitterines, loose the shackles, pit against African slaves. British we solved our problem- brillant, absolutely brilliant! The British Empire was so WICKED! No need, absolutely none, to be ashamed of the suffering the indentured endured. With pride I say, as a descendant of indentured labourers, my ancestors were tricked and exploited. Shame on the colonizers that took advantage of my ancestors. No shame on us. @MrJm3235 жыл бұрын
@@adjjal ....No, rather it is the typical condescending attitude of socialist elites towards the "common man" -- such as that he doesn't know what he is doing when he takes a loan from a payday lender, etc. The indentured servants knew what was happening just as much as the white British workingman understood when he enlisted in the army or the navy of the time. Nobody is going to say that the British Army or Navy was filled with "slaves", even though back then as well as today it is a form of indentured servitude. (You can't just quit the military after you've signed an enlistment contract. Those who go absent without permission are "AWOL", and if they are gone for more than thirty days AWOL, they are "deserters" and go to prison.) The British didn't "re-invent slavery", as indentured servitude had existed in British law long BEFORE colonial slavery; and even many poor whites had become indentured laborers and skilled artisans in the 17th and 18th centuries to get free passage to the colonies of the New World. ....So, why would the BBC decide that it only was slavery when "people of colour" signed these contracts in the 19th century?
@shammiadavid28854 жыл бұрын
Tahira1 Slaves never got compensated. They were sold and their offerings were sold at a blink! Indentured servants were actually paid or more so they were working off a debt. They were indentured servants in the Caribbean including Guyana from India, they were being paid but many revolted because of the low wage. NOTE THE DIFFERENCE!!!!!!

@@MrJm323 In your fiercely desperate attempt to underplay and refute the facts in this documentary, and impertinent attitude towards the original Post forming this thread, you have managed to exposed your ignorance. But being ignorant isn't always a problem, but when you're arrogantly ignorant, then it is a problem. What is worse is the obvious fact that you're triggered by the statement that "the British re-invented slavery", and that the Indians consent were obtained without knowledge of what they are getting themselves into. You speak like you have never heard the term "misrepresentation". As a conservative myself, I find it repulsive when people play the race card or the slave card, but I equally hate it when people get triggered and defensive whenever the issue of racism or slavery comes up, all because they feel uncomfortable, or a feeling of guilt is aroused.

Makes my heart bleeds. My great grandparents and grandparents were from India. My great grandmother was abducted from home under the pretext that her husband was involved in an accident and the overseer would be taking her to him. She had two children a son and a daughter. The son was the older of the two so she asked her neighbor to babysit him and she took the daughter and went with the, "White Man." He put her on a ship and shipped her off to British Guiana. She was ill the entire journey to British Guiana. She was made to take her baby daughter to the cane fields and cut cane. The advantage taken on these people were really sad. My father despised the British and especially, the king and the entire royal family. British Guiana taxes were sent to England. British Guiana was't being developed because all the taxes after all expenses were met, was sent to England so they could further develop that country. After all these countries and islands gained independence, British Guiana, Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica, etc., those places started progressing at a slow rate. Up to now, British Guiana, which is now Guyana is the poorest country in South America. The majority of inhabitants left Guyana and migrated to England, Canada and the USA. Of course the suffering started again because to come to a strange land and start over took much courage. These were mostly East Indians. Now, the white man can't keep them back. They're progressing in leaps and bounds.

I can recall a police corporal called King a large blackman, at the police station in a place called Wismar referring to East Indians as coolies. I thought it was a racial slur. I wish I had seen this before I went there. I can remember the terrible poverty. We had very little contact with the people unless it was in the course of our duty. Of course England is rich because of robbing India and Africa. Sadly, the African Kings and Queens did the same thing. Trading their own people to the Americans and Europeans as slaves to gain further wealth and becoming "white".

I am have no Indian ancestry at all but want to chime in. Now I know where the term “coolie” originated from but I want to give you some insight of it in reference to Jamaica specifically. If you are fully Indian then you are identified as Indian, but if you are Indian mixed with something else, mostly black, you are identified as “coolie”. So the term is not used as its original definition. Now just as biracial people are looked at as being more desirable (whether you want to admit it or not), coolies are very desirable in Jamaica. One petty reason is the idea that your offsprings will be beautiful because of the mix. So the term is not used negatively in Jamaica but more positively. If someone ask you if you are a coolie in Jamaica, most people take as a compliment.

Hey guys. Please do not use this video as a platform to fuel racial division and hatred among Africans and Indians. Please understand the concept and history this video offers. Hopefully, we can all establish peace and comraderie as humanity and move forward to learn to love and respect each other in spite of our differences. However, if I might, I shall further clarify that indentureship was indeed a modernized slavery. Remember, African slavery was abolished in Great Britain and North America when the slave trade then turned to India for indentured servants. Please note, the term "servant" had to be used in order for the owners to refrain from being accused of slavery, which was illegal and forbidden. They replaced African slaves. Also, not how the Indians had to sign away their rights and freedom on this document before removal to the new lands. The removal of freedom itself is enslavement. Slave owners had to be compensated- although very little money- just to uphold the status of owning indentured servants to avoid breeching law against slavery. Please review this video again and other historical documentation if you don't believe Indians were enslaved. and Today, we all have our story: Africans, Indians, Native Americans and Jews. Let's not lose sight of all that our ancestors endured by creating further division, which was a strategy used to keep us pitted in division among us all. No one is better than the next. We're all God's people.

Actually, I intended to state - "Note, how the East Indian indentured servants had to sign their rights thoughts away before being deployed to their respective laboring fields ". And, I also intended to further assert that - "At a extremely small rate, indentured slaves had to be 'compensated' so that the mere concept that enslavement was still bring practiced, would have been omitted since slavery have been abolished at that point". So, to compare the severity of treatments between African slaves and East Indian indentured servants is the same theory as one biting off his nose to spite his face. Bring omissive of the fact that both groups were in fact a part of the same trajectory is just being plain ignorant.

"[being] omissive of the fact that both groups were, in fact, a part of the same trajectory is just being plain ignorant." Proud&Sleek Geek, although your intention may be good and hopefully genuine, to agree that the African/Black Slavery experience was somehow equal to the East Indian experience it 100% erroneous, misleading and is indicative of the prevailing thought which contributes to the mis-identity happening. Yes, whites had their capitalistic agenda and used humans as a resource to achieve this. Review the concept of Chattel-Slavery, not just slavery, BUT Chattel-Slavery, the activity involved in it and the results of it and then compare it to the more humane, more rewarding concept of indentureship.... To be fair, Britain allowed "actual" (without calling it another name) slavery to continue in Nigeria until the 1960's. It was official policy there until then. Also, don't forget, most Britons themselves were often no more than serfs as Gandhi pointed out on his visits to the slums of London. Most couldn't read either and were often transported for virtually no reason...it was the Rich of England and sadly, they're still about. There's an MP in Dorset called Drax (sounds like a Bond bad guy right?) who owns a massive family plantation in the Bahamas and the leader of the house, one Rees-Mogg comes from slave-owner stock.

As someone who has studied history for years- the reality is that the further back you go you realize all race of mankind at one point has participated in slavery- on every continent. History didn’t start 500 years ago- but many thousands of years ago. We are all mixed to an extent - and all our ancestors owned slaves somewhere. Early humans were savage in war, rape, slavery, greed, and religion. Conquering for multiple reasons was a way of life. None of our ancestors are without sin in these areas. It’s sad we continue to focus on the past and act as though we are victims now- we have issues- but mankind is better now than they have ever been.
