To be honest I don't know about America but we had window air conditioners with built-in heaters since like the 70s over here that was the mainstream until heat pumps took over

for real. I think they didn't do it before because most older homes had gas heat already installed, so it wasn't necessary. But now with a lot of homes running off pure electricity, its more necessary.

Could one of these things maintain temperatures in a small bed room roughly 12x12 in the winter? Temperatures here can see negative but normally a cold winter is like freezing temps.

LG, IMHO, is a top-notch brand. I have to wonder how well it would heat a similar sized house 20x24 or slightly larger in my area where winter temps get to around minus 20 overnight. Would it keep up at 65-70F? House not built yet as it's winter.
@Novoworks

I will say.... since the heat is a heat pump, it will struggle at temps in the low 20's and below, at least from my experience.

@@52ponybike- Most of the heaters down here is Natural Gas, which works great. As far as heat pumps like my window unit, many heat pump systems can work into the sub zero temps, but not typically a window unit.

Well... semi-bad news : Unit is not keeping up anymore. It's not even as hot as usual (Texas summer) yet, so it's not that. But temps are 6-8 F degrees hotter in that room now. Unit still blows cold, but it does not blow cold as often --- blowing more room temp a lot more often. LG Support helped over the phone trying to diagnose... but no resolution. No error codes, or odd sounds/noises, just not running at full cool as much as it should be.

It may be low on refrigerant? And just not detecting it since it’s still kinda blowing the cool air?
@Novoworks
@Novoworks 4 ай бұрын
@@abstractfate6104 It's supposed to be a "sealed system". Have to un-mount it, and pull cover off to check that -- honestly not worth the effort right now. It's been keeping it between 74-78, which isn't terrible, just not as good as before

Follow up on this .... I ended up doing real good cleaning of the coils by flushing for about 15-20 minutes from the outside -- and it is a bit cooler out the past 2 days (85-90 vs 100), but it's handling the temps good again! Got down to 68 yesterday, so I finally bumped the temp up a bit and it's been holding 72 no problem. Will keep an eye out as the weather temps creep back up 👍

Defrost cycle when it gets below 45° F outside. It's reversing the refrigeration cycle to melt the ice on the condenser coil outside then switches back to heat.

Nice job. Thank you. Being a heat pump is just a reverse AC unit, I've wondered why they haven't made a window "AC/Heat Pump" yet. Is THIS IT?? Or are they just using a heating element for heat. I can't seem to find the answer elswhere. If you know, that'd be great!! : ))

@@Novoworks Wow!! Thanks for the FAST reply..Minutes!! : )) There's another video called my new HEAT PUMP window unit, but then he points to and says "These are the heat strips". Which would be electric. And,.. and HVAC installer makes a comment that he didn't know they exist yet, either. The poster then says, he's not sure. There's quite a difference between electric vs heat pump. THANK YOU for the resposne. : )

All heat pump units have additional resistance heat elements. when heat pump not efficient anymore( below 5F outdoor temperature typically) it will automatically start using regular resistance heat elements becoming regular space heaters.

@@MrNiceCobra Well that's more than intriesting!! Got me looking into this thinking you meant in the 'outside' unit, which made no sense to me! I’m in Houston and thinking of buying a window unit. Is your garage a stand alone or it connected to your house in any way? Also what type of insulation did you use in your garage attic?
@Novoworks

It's part of the house, and when we built the house had the walls insulated and insulated garage doors put in. Above half the garage is a bedroom and bath, and the other half is just attic space I can get to from the garage ceiling.

It's been on heat since it started getting cold... and even when it got "warm", not warm enough to move to AC mode. So the first day I switched it from AC to Heat it was about 61 in the garage, and it got it up to 69 in about 1.5 hours (maybe less, didn't check that often). Works surprisingly well on the heat side. 34 outside this morning, and the shop is sitting at 69 degrees

Can’t believe I found this video! I’m struggling with this unit or the 24,000 BTU AC only (Home Depot) Have same size garage. How did your unit do this summer it was quite warm? I am struggling, do I want that extra 6000 BTU AC and pass on the heater option. I just recently bought a 6000 W heater off of Amazon so have heat in garage (but could move this heater to my cover patio) Thanks
