Coolmunda Dam is located 13 kilometers east of Inglewood, off the Cunningham Highway. The Dam is a paradise for birdwatching and wildlife photography. It's also rated as one of the area's best 'sweet water' fishing spots, with Golden Perch, Murray Cod, Silver Perch, and Spangled Perch stocked regularly. I spent with my photographer friend Barry Mackenzie three fabulous days exploring the waterways and wildlife of the dam. 4 degrees Celsius in the morning with temperatures getting up to 14/15 degrees Celsius during the day made sure we had this little paradise to ourselves.
We explored and found out as much as we could during our first visit to the dam and the 3 to 4km stretches with standing timber in the water provided some of the best backdrops for a variety of wildlife.
We will return to Coolmunda Dam in spring for more extensive coverage.
Places like this make you realize how blessed we are to live in Australia.
