How can you bring producing into an mc conversation??
@CelisMusic2 жыл бұрын
@48:00 I see the points that Mike is making with the Ye vs Jay conversation, but the statement he doesn't attach himself to others in order to make hits would be a false one. As great as Ye is, we know he consistently receives help with his pen and also often collaborates with other producers in order to create music. I'm not saying this is a bad thing (Cause I've always seen him as more of a producer and artist rather than an emcee), just highlighting that he's not a one man show. So the real question is, is this list the top 20 "emcees" or the top "rap artist" cause for me the word emcee would indicate outside of hooks & bridges the rapper writes his own rhymes.

Another good episode to start 2023 the chat was Poppin the conversations were Poppin keep up the content coming fellas. What happened to A2hh trivia Thursdays? lol The keit murray disrespect crazy, The Redman Underating is crazy, First three albums undeniably classics, classics songs And his 90s feature run is impeccable Not to mention def squad an Mef n red work. And GURU rip not being on that list yet based on his Gang Starr work crazy and his own solo work smh. Treach was one of the most lethal lyricist, a unique flow and pens of the 90s and he wrote for a lot of artists so he should get some form of credit as a great emcee, From naughty has 3 classics to well-known anthems which he most wrote mostly Otherwise great episode.

Big Boi gotta be higher imo, one half of four of the top 100 Hip Hop Albums ever made and hes on every one of those songs never laying down a bad verse. PLUS, his flows, voice and style on Speakerboxxx is amazing, its one of the highest selling hip hop albums ever and you can see the impact that songs like the way you move, ghetto musik, Reset and flip flop rock had on the following era of hip hop. Do Flo Rida and Akon exist without Speakerboxxx (maybe but my point is you can see the influence that that era of Big Boi had on Rappers)? Also he found Killer Mike

The guys said that they were gonna put an asterisk by or "grandfather in" Big and Pac because of their untimely circumstances. That was a good idea that I wish they'd have stuck with. No shade to either artist but honestly how can you determine the impact that an abrupt death during your "only" peak run has on your historical placement? A lot is ASSUMED because of their trajectory at that moment. Snoop, Nas, Rakim, Cube, Slick Rick, X, Kendrick etc. are not just judged on their critical ascension but also thru valleys and comebacks. If they died during their initial stardom (especially tragically) wouldn't they be viewed differently too? Wouldn't they have been immortalized? Those 2 ninjas didn't ever have to comeback! They didn't actually have to prove what we believed: that they can shine over any production in any era, any climate, any circumstances. How much credit does Puff's guidance actually deserve and when its no longer there how does it look? How long could anyone be as confrontational/contradictory as Pac before the message loses its bite. It happened to others... Belief doesn't count as evidence.

This narrative of Em no having classic material need to stop. This man has got diverse subject matter. Content upon content, from "If I had" to "Darkness", greatest 3rd first in my opinion was Sing for the moment verse 3. Eminem Any Man, contributions to chronic 2001, 8 mile sountrack (artist still get paid off this album), reviving Dre career. Where would Xzibit, The Game, Kendrick, Anderson Paak be. Eminem changed after Proof died, yet he came back stronger. You guys might feel his impact is non existent but worldwide he is almost unmatched as a artist. People discovering Mockingbird, get play all the time. Consistently top youtube charts, other charts, spotify, deezer, genius. Yet nobody listens to him. Coop move the goal post the ghostwriters, Drake can't have them but Kanye and Snoop can? this needs to be throughly looked into, other list is flawed. Just my 2 cents, but we live in a world where shit happens, play your favourite artist songs and enjoy, distract your from the messed world we live in (reason why i enjoy his 3rd verse on sing for the moment).

@According 2 Hip Hop I can get behind your passion for music, Hip Hop, but to fairly push back on y'all continuous back-kicking on Kendrick Lamar's recent effort comes off quite facetious. Let me at least say his recent effort definitely caught me off guard( so did TPAB which I love), but not enough for me to not appreciate this effort especially when you have potent verses that are thought provoking as: "So what's the difference between your life when hiding motives? More fatalities and reality bring you closure The noble person that goes to work and pray like they posed to? Slaughter people too, your murder's just a bit slower." My thing is I understand that this album isn't made for the club, or any type of big group social setting. However, I have to point out because Mike D has mentioned on many occasions that he just didn't have any hits to help promote or rollout this album, but what I say to that is Kendrick has never been the artist that kept clubs in the back of his mind when it came to releasing music. I think everyone that has been an avid listener of Kendrick understand that he doesn't put out music that you want but more so what he wants to put out. To say the least, To say Kendrick doesn't have impact is crazy for both Mike D and Coop to say. Well, let's look at a micro observation when he was introduced on the scene with GKMC. He had kids and men around his age range getting the hairstyle that he was wearing at the time (a hightop fade, with the side bars). Then after GKMC dropped you had artists like Logic, JID, and DSmoke who are direct influences of him especially how Logic debuted his first studio album. Then, He revived the sport of competition in Hiphop which I led to a flood of MCs giving him a response o n Wax because of the Control Verse. Then, TPAB which although was a left turn from the commercially successful effort of GKMC it still had a major impact from a social scale with his hit single 'Alright' which was the breath and life of the BLM movement. On top of that, at least in my hometown and other states, Kendrick's discography has entered the classroom from an educational standpoint which is pretty major which places him in a small list of artists that have garnered that feat. So, please stop with that rhetoric as if Kendrick is not at all deserving of the accolades he has achieved since he popped out on the scene.

There’s too much to say but some of your takes in this are way off and damn near disrespectful to some of these MCs. Most noticeably your takes on Common and Black Thought are so off you shouldn’t even speak on them. Finding Forever at 3rd may be the worst opinion I’ve heard on this channel and I’ve said it multiple times. Black Thought at 21 is very disrespectful. Black Thought is much more the leader of the Roots and the primary MC for the majority of their career that he can’t be looked at the same way you are looking at these other MCs in groups, which I also don’t agree with at all. Thought needs to get more credit for those Roots classics. Jadakiss does not have a classic album, does not have a classic group album and does not have a classic song. He does not need to be on this list at all. You give him credit for the Verzuz battle and then rate him over Black Thought? Have you seen a Roots show? One MC Jada would not have done that shit to is Black Thought. Meth is a great live performer but I’ve seen Thought do 3 hour shows where he spits all his verses and Malik’s verses because Malik didn’t tour. And that dude did not miss a beat! Ask anyone on your Top 20 list who they don’t want to stand on stage next to and I guarantee they will say Black Thought. Overall you obviously have legit MCs on the list but your just picking and choosing when you want to weigh certain things higher than others just to fit your narrative.
@jbwuzhere68192 жыл бұрын
Yo I'm with you on the whole Jada/Thought conversation. How is Kiss on this list? He has the worst resume of all the notable lyricists. Why doesn't Black Thought get the same "group classics" treatment that the Wu guys seem to get? The Roots ain't Wu but still... they got a few classics and he's the ring leader on every joint.
