Cooper Flagg and Montverde got tested by Beckham Black and Duncanville at Thanksgiving Hoopfest tonight. After a close first half, Montverde opened the 3rd quarter with a 25-4 run in first five minutes or so. They ended up winning 101-74.

Duncanville is a standard although very large school. Monteverde is a prep school. So those kids are at that school for their basketball talent. Thats why they all look like college players.

They went against a team that’s much bigger than they are but they could have won or kept the game close. Too much driving to the basket…not enough spreading the floor to open up spots for jump shots or taking easy shots. No boxing out (which was hard, I know, against a taller squad) or contesting for the rebound. Almost like they were afraid to take a hit or foul. And the pressure on the ball from Duncanville was nearly non existent. They did well in the first half but I think Montverde played a Psychological game or they reserved their energy for the final half.
