For the record, American Fork is simply a standard high school. It isn't an academy designed to produce basketball talent. It is just a regular high school south of Salt Lake.

Coming from an actual basketball official - that was 100% a charge, shoulder down and kid sold it too. Also you don’t have to be set to take a charge. All about positioning

@deez994 I played d2 and I disagree. As a ref u should understand that the kid got the ball running down the wing and went to dribble in one motion, defender was a step behind as he caught it and stepped straight into where he was going with his move.

@@zeebee3606defender was definitely a step late but the shoulder drop and initiating the contact made it a 50/50 call, especially when dealing with HS refs who don’t have as many games under their belt. Would have been a tough call either way

@@deez994 The defender beat him to the spot and established his position? That's not what i saw. Another part of the charge definition states "Against a dribbler in the open court, the defender simply needs to be in front of him and provide enough distance for that player to reasonably stop or change direction." In the clip mention i did not see the defender giving the offensive player "enough distance to reasonably stop or change direction" Because 1 the defensive player never established a position and 2 he was inches away from him before contact and still moving. But i could be wrong i guess who knows.

@robynator4168
@robynator4168 Жыл бұрын
deez994 is correct - you don't have to beat an opponent to the spot any longer. You have to establish a legal guarding position which is essentially facing the opponent with 2 feet on the floor. Any contact to the torso of the defender who is in a legal guarding position is considered a player control foul. I believe they called it correctly.

MVC is an all star team, they should beat every single team they play. Cooper is a piece to the puzzle for this team. If he wasn’t on this team they would be great anyways. Let’s put Cooper on a less talented team and have him work more instead of just watching his teammates do everything . I ain’t no basketball savant but it is always great to see players on a school team that is not comprised full a bunch of D1 players.

These traveling academy teams are everything that is wrong with high school sports. If they don't end up playing professionally then they have no life skills to fall back on because their entire life has been basketball. You are 1 of those guys who try to convince themselves that being a millionaire is a bad thing cuz they don't know the value of a hard days work? This might be the first time I've heard someone advocate that kids at private schools, many of which have D1 scholarships to prestigious universities are at some kind of disadvantage for not attending a (wait for it) PUBLIC school system😂😂😂😂😂.... What exactly are these kids missing out on? Trust me these guys are getting the FULL hs experience AND SOME! From banging chicks, drugs, travel, friends, personalized education & social media exposure etc. I promise you, these kids will have more opportunities & be more successful than the average high school kid. You Hating on kids that have scholarships to Duke, stanford, Vanderbilt, etc while your local HS kids in your town will be out flipping burgers or attending community College. Sad.
@sonofRassmuss
@sonofRassmuss Жыл бұрын
I think that you have reading comprehension issues. I never advocated for the public school system. In fact, i think homeschooling or private school is the only way to get a decent education. My point is that the kids that go to these basketball academy's don't learn anything other than basketball, I know this from experience. They are constantly on the road for 4 months out of the school year, destroying public high schools, for what? There is more to life than sportsball, i wish Americans would wake up to this fact.

I played coached and watched in various levels for 50 years ...and Cooper Flagg will be a VERY wealthy young man. Unreal motor when he needs it. Great passer , next level defender , Long, runs the court well, unselfish , hops, good shot , wouldn't say great . A winner . Very athletic. Sees the game and floor extremely well for a kid who hasn't yet turned 17 years old. He will need some adjustment time for the NBA. But Cooper Flagg will be a lottery pick ... probably top 5 when he comes out of Duke. And a success in the NBA and the god awful basketball played there now.
