By far my most effective fly for swinging for trout and salmon. This is a super easy fly to tie and very easy to cast with a spey, switch or single handed fly rod. Dave's Panic Button can be tied in a variety of colors and sizes - below you'll find the complete tying recipe. www.youtube.co...
"If I could only use one fly the rest of my guiding and fishing career, this would hands-down be the one." - David Lisi, Owner & Head Guide, Cooper Landing Fishing Guide
Originally called the J.R. Schmolty, this updated version, now called "Dave's Panic Button," has been featured in a variety of fly fishing magazines and fly tying articles.
I use this fly almost exclusively when guiding for trophy rainbow trout on the Kenai River with my clients and it is just about the only fly you'll see me using when I am out fishing on my own.

What weight rods are you using in Alaska for trout? Seems a 5116, 5126 or 6 in the same sizes might be a good trout rod with enough backbone for the incidental hookups of larger species. I find it hard to believe you’d use 2-4. Maybe a 4....I guess.
@CooperLandingFishingGuide
@CooperLandingFishingGuide 5 жыл бұрын
@@jkdurden Mostly using a 13' 7wt, but 12' 6wts do really well. Some streams you could get away with 4 and 5 wt switch rods though. Of course there are lots of salmon around that can definitely be quite a challenge on smaller rods.

Have you tried to use a length of led ( or led-free ) wire along the bottom to weigh them "more evenly"?? One could also have more towards the head for jiggy action etc. Just a thing that popped inti my hyperactive head while watching your vids. Greetings from Iceland M8!!
