In a world that is evidently prepared to put up with the violence and genocide now taking place in Ukraine and Palestine, it should not be surprising that climate change is not being regarded as a big enough threat against humanity to mitigate; let alone reverse.

Back when he made that claim most of the charts governments were hocking assumed a sensitivity of 2 or so. And those bogus models were used to discredit and ridicule him. I remember.

Is wind and solar power "clean" or "green"? Apparently a large (5 megawatt) wind turbine can require 1,000 tons of steel, and such turbines only last just two or three decades before they need to be discarded, and new ones built (using more fossil fuels and newly mined/refined materials). For this reason, Nate Hagens, I think properly, refers to such technologies as "rebuildable" rather than "renewable."
@climatechatКүн бұрын
The amount of extraction needed for renewable energy is about 500 times less than the extraction needed for fossil fuels (FF). FF is use once then re-extract. Renewables last for 20~30 years then can be mostly recycled. www.distilled.earth/p/a-fossil-fuel-economy-requires-535x

Renewable used to refer to the energy source, aka renewable energy. Nate likes to twist it around as if the machine should last forever or it's no better. I do quite question his motive sometimes as he's particularly biased in this regard.

More should be made of the reason emissions in the US in many, if not all, industrial countries are actually falling (8:37) while they increase in China because the West has exported so much of its industrial production (especially that involving a lot of pollution) to China.
@climatechat15 сағат бұрын
It's because the standard of living in those "industrialized" countries is already quite high while it is still rising in China (and is significantly below that if those other countries. The emissions per capita in the US is much higher than in China. Also, as we discussed, the "fall" of emissions in the US is partly due to the switch from coal to "natural" (methane) gas which actually increases global temperatures while reducing emissions on an accounting basis.

One should not be amazed at truck idling. It's a matter of EDUCATION AND behavior. Here in Belgrade, Serbia, YEARS ago, traffic lights with the countdown have been placed in order for drivers to turn off engines waiting for the green. Nowadays, hardly anyone cares in the same situation. Passers by are amazed if one DOES so. This is not to say that we don't recycle or (at least a bit) care about ecology or air quality. Fast pace of life has the main influence.
