2007 was the first generation of the Tahoe that they used the cylinder deactivation. Very notorious for having major failure. Their transmissions in the first gens in 2007 were known for failure as well. Love the content by the way 😊

'07 Silverado is the clear winner of this video! Can't believe it's THAT clean for 235k. I love seeing the fleet Rangers, but that Ranger may be a pass unless it's under/around $1000 out the door! I'd buy the '06 Explorer for the noisy transmission. It's Halloween season and it's a spooky noise haha!😂😂😂

I have a 2006 mountaineer with 188k miles with no leaks and it's fairly dependable. It's fully loaded with almost all options even the power running boards.

Guarantee you that black Tahoe wasn’t in that condition a few months ago. Doesn’t take long to get a vehicle to that type of condition, but it was also probably sold by a buy here-pay here style dealership as well. Can’t tell you how many engines I have put in for folks buying from no credit houses and had to foot the entire bill for the engine on top of their monthly pymt. Some folks just like this just let them get repoed.

Those tahoes dont last anyway. That ones a 5.3 with dod (displacement on demand) which causes them to destroy the cam with high milage. This one is also has a 4l60 transmission (can tell by the shift selector saying 321 instead of m for manual mode). You dont want to deal with them though. We have a 09 tahoe with DOD issues and a bad torque converter. They are just junk. Nice when they are running though

@@ThatBlueHoe I agree…that’s why it was at the BHPH lot. They bought it cheap, verified it ran, cleaned it and sold it for a huge profit. Only the “new” GM could take a bulletproof engine and make it problematic. I actually own one of the original GM dod engines- the much maligned Cadillac v8-6-4. Same thing, it wiped out cams. Mine is 100% functional as it was repaired once by caring/doting owner. I have it on a switch where I can run in 8 mode only.

Yes, if you own one of these, it's really worth it to do a "DOD delete" if you plan to keep it for a while. These are perfect engines with the DOD removed.

@@mahatma171 exactly. We plan on fixing our 09 and I plan on doing the D0D delete with a truck Norris cam in the future. But it's a real pain that shes messed up mainly because it's the daily. GM really f**ked up with the Dod Bs.

One of my vehicles is a 2013 Chevy Silverado LS 4.8 v8, them small v8s are bulletproof reliable none of that cylinder deactivation crap

Multiple Displacement System or MDS was Dodge’s name for cylinder deactivation, GM’s was Active Fuel Management or AFM.

I bought a '94 4x4 Suburban with 395k miles up there about a yr ago, all original, no rust, original drivetrain that after a good detail and tune up was almost perfect. Sold it for a profit with 398k miles.

I have a '07 burb with a 5.3 and a '02 3/4 ton with a 8.1 and 310k miles and it gets 10-14 mpg and can haul 10k. The '07 ( 5.3) is horribly underpowered and only gets 2 mpg better. and lot's of electrical problems. I'll stick with the reliability and all the power you need for 2 less mpg and half the price!

I have an 06 Avalanche no cylinder deactivation at all as someone said they started in 07 I upgraded the 4L60E to the 4l80E and still rolling at 281K miles. if you have an 07 and up you can turn that cylinder deactivation off either with a plug in module or tuning software and a good tuner doing it.

FYI to all of sellers out there, realistically if your car has over 200,000 miles on it, I'm not paying over $1,000. After 200,000 miles your car is used up and probably in need of maintenance. There are a couple of exceptions to that but that is my standard rule of thumb. So sellers you should price your vehicles accordingly and not expect to sell for anything much over that. Randy can overpay a little due to needing the content for his KZbin video's and being able to recoup some of purchase price from KZbin revenue. Most of us don't post on KZbin.

I believe they called it DOD, displacement on demand if I remember it correctly. Very dumb design and it really doesn’t even make that much fuel mileage difference. Wouldn’t touch that with a 10ft pole. Been there done that.

It’s called afm.active fuel management….my 2010 Sierra Denali does not have it in the 6.2..thank god….all 5he 07-13’ trucks with the 6.2 did not come with afm (vin2)….the SUV’s with the 6.2’s did though for some reason..

beware of tahoes after 2006 engine cylinder shutdown problems i stick with 2006 and older tahoe/suburban/escalade/yukon. explorers were based upon rangers.

That black Chevy Tahoe probably needs a new transmission. That would cost about $2000 for a replacement transmission. I believe that the transmission has been driven hard.
