Remastered versions of some of the first videos captured in Copenhagen, Denmark. The original recordings are from different sources and were captured between 1900 and 1910. We observe: Retail and business in Copenhagen: Serpent Cykelforretning on Falkoner Alle. The newly built Hotel Cosmopolite on the corner of Store Kongensgade/Gothersgade. The retail bank at Nygade 4. Knippelsbro. Hotel d'Angleterre. Bikubens Sparekasse - Østerbro branch. Østerbros Vinhandel. Hafnia Bicycles. Ferdinand Lørups Isenkram & Udstyr. Jens Karl Jensen's men's clothing store Cravats. Cyclists ride back and forth in front of the Serpent bicycle shop at the intersection of Falkoner Alle 25 in Frederiksberg. Decorated floats travel through the streets of Copenhagen to raise money for the Children's Office. A large and festive procession moves through Strøget. The first Children's Aid Day took place on May 6, 1904. The aim was to raise money for humanitarian work among children and young people. It was a popular event, with many of the artists of the day taking part. Further, we are on a boat traveling along Copenhagen's canals which is an excellent way to see more of the city's sights.
Vivid History is dedicated to restoring old black and white footage and creating high-quality colorized versions to give you an authentic and vivid experience of the past.
The video has been restored and colorized using state-of-the-art machine learning methods.
The restoration steps included:
motion stabilization
noise reduction
colorization
frame interpolation for increased FPS
upscaling to 4K
adding ambient sound

Very interesting, but the coloring should have been done with more care: All these blue flags with a white cross should actually be red with a white cross - the Danish national flag! This actually makes me notice that there is a funny absence of red in the whole movie! Is that maybe a more common technical problem when coloring old black and white films?

Interesting how you see the ruins of the old parliament, Christiansborg Palace (the rebuilt building is also known as "Borgen" in the series). On that same boat ride today, you see the ruins of the old stock exchange, next to the now rebuilt parliament, as half of it burnt down recently. A tragedy as it was one of the oldest buildings in Denmark, and one of the oldest stock exchanges in the world. But on this film, the stock exchange is exactly as before - and it touches the heart to see it here (look for the spire, that has now disappeared).

Very good. The ruins are Christiansborg, which burned down in 1884, but for political reasons had to wait over 20 years for a rebuild. The vintage building with the spiral spire, seen at 10:57 just before Christiansborg, is Børsen from 1620. This neighbor sadly burned in the spring of 2024 and the northern part towards the 'borg' now stands in similar ruins. The other neighbor with the flat dome, Christiansborg Slotskirke, a church, was taken by flames in 1992, but now stands proudly again. All in all the film captures an atmosphere that (if you look closely) lives on to this day. But yes, our flag, Dannebrog, is red & white - and is said to be the oldest national flag in the world.

Doesn't look much different from today. Biggest difference are the clothes, horses and the many boats in the harbour.

Amazing footage. Norway got it's independence in 1905, I wonder if this is before or after.

@@jesperolsen8727 Yes, when Norway became independed they choose the younger brother of the current Danish king - he accepted only after a public vote was held.

Amazing footage. Great to see Denmark the way it was. These people knew who they were and were proud of their heritage. Nothing was handed to them on a silver platter. They strove for a better life and prospered. Everyone earned their daily bread except those who truly could not. There was civility, kindness, and human respect. There was Christian charity, love, and compassion. This was the civilized world pre-1914. We need to get back to the old way of life and its values. GOD SAVE THE WEST!

Fantastiske optagelser. Jeg synes dog der er en stor mangel på røde farver i disse film. Ikke mindst de scener, hvor Dannebrog er vist, hvor den røde farve fremstår helt sort. Jeg er ikke imponeret over kvaliteten af disse scener.

@5:47 - shouldnt the flags on the wagon have been red? ie Dannebrog?

The colorization involves some automatic steps, so it is not perfect.

Ret fantastisk hvad man kan med remastering, men Dannebrog kan processen åbenbart ikke gøre rød og hvid.

Thx for the show and vid. I'd love if the flag had been Red And White, not Blue and White. Small detaile

Yes, the colorization involves some automatic steps, so it is unfortunately not always perfect.

Crazy to think that at the same time as some of this footage was taken, the titanic was being built.
