There's just something about this woman that absolutely captivates me. She was just such a naturally beautiful young lady...and in nearly every photograph I've ever seen of her, she's always...smiling! And you can just tell it's a genuine smile...and not just forced for the camera. Millie once said in an interview that Chris Blackwell, founder of Island Records and a true gentleman, looked after her "like a father" when on tour. A very sweet, beautiful, talented and happy young lady from Jamaica...meeting people and seeing the world, taking everything on her own terms, unafraid...being on television...and having the time of her young life! God bless and keep you, girl.
@gary14772 жыл бұрын
Chris Blackwell took Millie Small on a tour of Australia. As Millie was under age, her parents had to sign a guardianship agreement appointing Chris Blackwell has her guardian for the duration of the tour. Very much later, Millie Small was homeless and broke, so he bought her a house.

No Doubt, Joan Jett, Bikini Kill would not exist without standing on the shoulders of Millie Small. She single handedly started the popularization of ska music with one song, and as a teenager no less! There would be no First Wave, Second Wave or Third Wave of Ska or Ska Punk without her. She was truly one of the greatest female pioneers of music history by giving the world a whole new form of music called Ska. Elvis didn't invent rock and roll and Millie Small did not invent Ska, but the both popularized the new form of music. Elvis was the King of Rock, but Millie Small was the Queen of Ska. She was a true Goddess of Music. Rest in Peace. Everyone should know her name. She should be on Jamaican currency and stamps. Her importance to Jamaican music is perhaps even greater than Bob Marley.
