Join me, as I craft an entire chainmaille shirt made of copper rings in just over 66 hours real time. This was my first pass at creating such a large piece of chainmaille and I did not follow any templates. I simply ordered 25lbs of copper rings and sat down in front of the camera to capture the adventure.
Music:
Gurren Lagann - Drip Drop
Aria - Kalafina
Whispered - Tsukiakari
Dans la mer de son - Camellia
Just Hold On (To All Fighters) - Void
Intro Filmed by @the_reel_instagraeme
Dragon Mask template by @Wintercroft
BRS Barebones Balisong by @bladerunnerssystems
Time Lapse Info:
1 picture every 5 seconds
47,529 pictures
237,645 seconds
3,960 minutes
66 hours
There were 10 days of prep work that is not shown in the time lapse. I prepared as much European 4 in 1 patterns before hand so I could concentrate on weaving.
The Rings!
All copper rings and small buckles were purchased through The Ring Lord. Highest praise to The Ring Lord for providing their amazing service. Huzzah!
theringlord.com/
Copper ring specs:
400oz of Saw Cut Copper 16g 1/4" rings
Assembled in European 4 in 1
Roughly 2 - 3oz of copper set aside for extra projects
Dragon mask specs:
Wintercroft template, several large cereal boxes, super glue, primer, pre shade, airbrush.

I doubt copper would stop even human teeth though - let's be real here. I could stab him to death with a blunt wooden stick through that garbage.

@@dr.lexwinter8604 Yeah, bit steel would be with it's weight in gold. That said, I'm pretty sure this is butted mail anyway. X/ Without rivets it would be weak no matter what it was made of.

Dr. Lex Winter have you ever seen copper swords or armour? I have no idea how you could ever think human teeth or wood could be stronger than any metal, especially one used historically for warfare. Edit: the Japanese used paper for armour against bows and steel weapons. Plus bronze (not copper) is stronger than iron (not steel) and easier to work with since it can be melted and casted

Because it's idiotic to go through the effort of making chainmail and using COPPER of all things. 10% more effort and he'd have had an iron shirt. That and I guess the intro makes him look like a super wanker.

I'm showing all my friends, haha Nice job on the chainmail. You should make a video of just that beginning shit though. "Not for the faint of heart" haha priceless.

Im making my own but its butted but understanding the physics its not that weak the way butted armor has been tested is false, before they strike it they attach the mail to something either too sturdy/heavily planted in the ground And Or is too hard unlike a human person, our bodys are squishy And if we are in combat we are usually on gaurd trying to avoid attacks

@@grigoriyefimovichrasputin7897 Really? Are you sure you want to bet your life on that? And good on you not using copper like this idiot did.

@@grigoriyefimovichrasputin7897 Does it offer some protection? Sure, but compared to riveted mail it's garbage. If you're using it for costume, LARPing or collecting that's fine but a person should never use butted mail expecting it to offer the same level of protection as riveted mail.

Wouldn't it be faster to just add each row instead of making a row of 3 then addig that? I'm making a 6 in 1 steel chainmail and the first 3 rows are a pain as they tend to contort if I'm not moving them care fully. The 4th on stabilises it. And I find joining to be much slower process.
@NEOMNIMON
@NEOMNIMON 5 жыл бұрын
4in1 is slightly faster when joining pre-assembled 4in1 groups, but 6in1 is definitely faster just adding 1 ring at at time. I'm making a 60lb heavy maille shirt of 14 gauge 6in1, and joining is a hassle. So I only add individual rings.

May seem silly to say this but the video is amazing I would love to see this same video done but with Riveted chainmail I think the time would increase and the prep work would increase but it would be an amazing video to see how you deal with the arms and neck work of a riveted chainmail shirt.
