I was around 12-13 when I made the comment above this one so please disregard it. I did a quick lookup of him and Eric has a pretty strong background in culinary arts and fine dining; being true to what the intro said, he *did* open up a restaurant in Pennsylvania in ‘97 but it seems to have closed sometime ago. As far as being “America’s favorite on-air chef,” the most he’s done was go on a few morning shows and be a spokesperson for products like this one so younger me wasn’t entirely off.

I am new to all this so please excuse my odd observation. The infomercial says that the cookware is 'infused with copper' and contains real copper, but the website says that 'there is no copper in the cookware and that it is made of aluminum and only copper colored'. Which one is correct? I noticed in the infomercial at no point was anything boiled. For example, if I wanted to make mash potatoes and wanted to boil my potatoes first, I did not see that demonstrated. I saw a picture of rice in the cookware, but I did not see a demonstration of how it is superior to my rice cooker. I do understand that it is easy to clean, but the vegetables in soup for the potpie was so brief. In none of the video did I see where seasonings were added to the food. What is the impact of adding cinnamon or cayenne pepper to the pot. I see that the cookware accounts for making sure dairy and those types of sugars don't stick, but how does it handle seasonings? I know everyone is on the health kick and trying to not only cook healthier food, but also cook it in a healthier way. I thought aluminum and copper cause Alzheimers and/or dementia? At least that is what the internet says and the Copper Chef is made of aluminum and may or may not be infused with copper? How does that part work? Last, but not least.... what was the oil in the video used to make the french fries? All of this stuff is confusing to me... So far, I like the idea of the copper chef for making french fries and maybe that will keep me out of the fastfood joints, but so far it is not looking good. Turns out... My rice cooker can steam veggies and is nonstick easy to clean. Technically, I should not be eating all that fried food anyway, but I am hard headed....lol.... I did not see how this item replaces a wok either .... Well... I will keep looking at some more reviews. Cleaning is cool, but I am not sure if that is enough to make me buy this as I have regular pots that are decent. Oh... the statement about the cast iron skillet is so true and too funny. lol... I am ready to get rid of mine which is one of the reasons that I am looking at alternatives. lolll
@duckpwnd8 жыл бұрын
Cast iron is great. It does take a while to heat it up so you probably wouldn't want to use it in fast paced restaurant, but you do not need a lot of oil or butter. Cast iron is really easy to take care of much easier/faster to clean than normal pans. It also holds heat very well. Once the pan heats up, it cooks very evenly. I think that chef is full of shit and was shilling for this company. The one drawback of cast iron is that you have to be careful about cooking acidic foods (like tomato sauces) in there too much because (or on a brand new pan) because it can strip the seasoning that's been built up.
@mnash38 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the kind response. I did watch some more reviews and they were not very favorable for the Copper Chef so I am going to go ahead and pass on it. I did learn some things... Alot of cookware has aluminum apart of its make-up for heat, but as long as it does not come into contact with the food that is fine. As for cast iron... Thanks for your advice. For the most part, I am just a bonehead and just do need to take better care of my cast iron with seasoning, etc. Soooo I am keeping it and just going to learn more about how to use it. I did decide to go with a carbon steel wok for my fast style cooking of stir fry. I have also decided to go with a Philips XL airfryer for my french fries and I will still use my rice cooker for rice, steamer pot for steaming, and my regular pot for making mashed potatoes. Sooooo... you gotta love KZbin!!! Everything is here! And people sharing their knowledge and trying to sell shady products! What a wonderful world!!!!lol.. Thanks again for your feedback and Happy New Year!
@duckpwnd8 жыл бұрын
I've actually found that cast iron is much easier to take care of. After I cook something, I just leave the pan on the stove until it cools down completely. Sometimes I don't get to it until the next day. Then I put a little bit of water in it and wipe it with a chainmail cloth (you can buy them on amazon for $10). Everything that was cooked into the pan comes off in about 45 second. Then I pat it dry and put the pan on a burner and turn it on to low/medium (3 on the electric stove dial) to get rid of the excess water. I come back to at after about 20 minutes, shut off the burner and use a paper towel to wipe a little bit of vegetable oil on the pan. I never use soap on the pain itself, but I do use a little to clean the chainmail cloth. It sounds like a lot work, but it really isn't. The chainmail cloth makes it so easy to clean the pan and I find it to be much easier than scrubbing a steal pan. There are so many people who have done videos on cast iron, so you can watch more of those if you're interested. But they really are great pans. They're cheap, they cook things so much better and they last forever as long as you maintain them there are plenty of people that are using cast iron pans that are 80 or more years old.
@mnash38 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the kind response. I will check out some more videos on how to maintain my cast iron. Thanks again.

I almost got sold on the apple pie alone. I couldn't find a big can of apples, so I tried it with a big can of peaches. After preheating at 375, and letting it cook for an hour, only the top turned brown, and there was way too much peach juice still forming outside the dough on the sides. I tried it a second time with five cans of fried apples, and got the same problem with too much juice after I poured the contents in the can onto the dough. But this time I took out most of the juice, at least the last three cans. It cooked better after an hour, but it still didn't cook well enough on the sides. So I let it cook for another ten minutes. Then I was able to almost slice a piece and lift it like on the video, but not quite, as it still wasn't cooked well enough. It didn't taste too sweet either. Perhaps it had something to do with draining the juice. I had to drain juice form that peach pie too, and it didn't taste all that well as well. Btw, these are the first two times I ever tried to baked a pie. I must be missing something or doing something wrong.

I ordered one of these pans and received it last week. I read the instructions, but I didn't see an answer to my question. I want to make some Yorkshire pudding in mine instead of using the small cupcake sized cooking vessels. My question is, can this pan endure a trip to oven for 10 minutes in an oven set at 425 degrees? I need to pre-heat the oil before putting the batter in the pan. Then, the pan would go back into the oven for an additional 20 minutes at 475 to finish cooking. Am I in any danger of harming my pan using a hot oven?
