I've been assembling stained glass pieces for over 30 years now and have yet to find someone with a decent technique for replacing a piece or several pieces of broken glass in a foiled project. I've seen people making simple videos with very juvenile pieces and fixing a broken piece in them which anyone can do. But I've never seen anyone fixing a very detailed piece and/or using braided copper wick to remove the solder. Repairing a foiled project is no fun task, especially when it is a very large item. Older glass is hard to come by so matching colors isn't always possible. There seems to be NO one out there (Minnesota) that wants to tackle these jobs. My hands aren't what they used to be as I am going on 67 with arthritis everywhere. Do you have any videos on "how to" remove small pieces in very detailed projects?

Thank you for this, I am soldering a large panel right now, and for some reason there was some problems with parts of the foil that I have never encountered. This technique will fix the problem.

Great repair David. But I have a two part question-please- : are you using regular or black-backend copper foil?..and what width? TY
@GommStainedGlass
@GommStainedGlass 4 жыл бұрын
We could use black backed foil, I'm not, but I could. Width size was listed on screen..1/8" Sometimes I use smaller, depends on the situation.

Gomm Stained Glass ~ I rewatched the video and of course saw the foil size scrolling across 😀 ..and just to clarify my question..I was referring on the choice for plain copper foil or blk/backend on the whole window construction and not on the piece used for the repair! Can’t wait to see it finished😃
@GommStainedGlass
@GommStainedGlass 4 жыл бұрын
@@nadiab3533 We used 1/4" regular copper foil for the entire window. The glass was a little bit wider than most so I could have used 5/16" foil.
@getin3949
@getin3949 4 жыл бұрын
@@nadiab3533 I would have used black BACKED not regular copper foil because you can see the copper through the clear glass. Especially if you're going to patina the end result black.
@nadiab3533
@nadiab3533 4 жыл бұрын
get in ~ ..that was my thinking since black patina is the most frequently used for a finish.
