I am quite impressed with how this came out. I'm a metal fabricator and have never thought about doing something like this. I'm really hard on my welding helmets so I don't spend a lot of money on them. I'm pretty blind as well so I have to get closer to my work, the more intricate my welding gets so I go through protective lenses rather quickly so I have to be able to change them out easily. When I had my shop going I made sure that I always had a backup welding helmet just in case I got pissed off and I threw my helmet. I was horrible with my helmets. Maybe I should have built myself a helmet similar to this. I would've saved myself quite a bit of money if I had. Excellent job bud!

This is cool. I heard back in the sailing ages the revolutionaries and the military forces use to make 5mm thick copper plating to cover their ships beams and framing from constant pirate attacks. Apparently it worked well at holding the ship together. Obviously not good against cannon balls, but definitely helped stop muskets and pellets from blunderbusses from shredding their ships. Most of the pellets ended up lodged or stuck in the thick copper.

Wow! The hammering looked tedious, but the result well worth it. Impressive! I've done a tiny bit of copper smithing. It's a wonderful material. Very responsive and expressive.

The propane blowtorches reminded me that copper work tempers, i.e. it hardens as you hammer it and needs to be heated up and let cool down to soften again. (Annealing) Thanks for the reminder. :P

little tip to who may try this. dont heat it and let it air cool. thats how you harden non ferrous metals instead of anneal. instead you heat and quench. its opposite of ferrous metals like steel and such
