I have a sink exactly like this, and I damaged it when I wiped it out with a damp sponge - not realizing there was cleaner chemical residue of some sort on the sponge. It removed my patina down to the shiny copper in several places. I used all the materials you suggested here, and even as a novice, it came out amazingly well! The only thing I would say is that the brown patina spray is very very dark, much darker than the sink, nearly black. Also, you sort of skipped over the part about using the solvent, but I figured it out. Very helpful video, thank you!

Excellent tutorial. Thank you. I left dishes and flatware in my new copper sink. Nothing acidic, but now there's rings and worn places where the patina is rubbed off. Good to know it can be treated, even if it is annoying to discover how fragile the finish actually is.

To increase durability, you just need to use the right clear coat. Ever Clear will give you the best protection available.

You mentioned diluting the patina 50% for better color control. What would you dilute it with?
@sculptnouveau8 жыл бұрын
You can use distilled water to dilute the Traditional and Birchwood patinas.

Great information. Unfortunately, I was hoping to have copper sinks which would take a beating like stainless does. Guess I was a little shortsighted.
@sculptnouveau8 жыл бұрын
Your best bet if you intend for it to take a beating as you have mentioned is to use the Ever Clear instead of the Clear Guard. Regular reapplication of the Metal Wax will help maintain the surface as well.

What do you do if you DO get a white film on it?
@sculptnouveau9 жыл бұрын
Jannelle Cosgriff Try using some of the Sculpt Nouveau Metal Oil and it should clear right up. Two to three days later, you can apply Clear Guard or Ever Clear.

Sculpt Nouveau I keep meaning to put an update ... so I tried what you suggested after purchasing the Oil ... it worked perfectly! My sink is beautifully perfect again. Now I know what to do should anything happens again. Thank you!

According to the manufacturer they do not put any kind of sealer on this sink. I have one and called them about areas where the patina came off.
@sculptnouveau9 ай бұрын
Even easier prep then. Just clean with soap and water, then re-patina. Seal it this time to keep it looking the way you want longer.

Great tutorial. I do have a question though. When we bought our current home nearly two years ago, there were already hard water stains & damage to one of our copper sinks. How can that be removed? If I could figure that out, I'd be ready to restore it using your technique. Thank you.
@sculptnouveau8 жыл бұрын
The best thing to try first is soap and water. If that doesn't do it you can try the Graffiti Remover that we sell and that should do it. Here is the link for that: www.sculptnouveau.com/Details.cfm?ProdID=103&category=9

So i have a copper sink that is pretty used and needs to be touched up. Do you recommend stripping it down completely and starting over? There are many areas that need to be touched up. I love your video and want to get my sink to look like your finished sink. Mine started out that way but needs some help. Would love to pay you to come fix mine 😉
@sculptnouveau3 жыл бұрын
Great question. Personally, I find it easier to strip it down and do a full restoration. That being said, many times it will not look exactly the same as it did before. So if you want it to look basically like it does now but with repairs, do a fix/patch instead. We don't do the service unfortunately, we just sell the products and help with tech support to get it done. Give us a call and we can help walk you through the process 760 432 8242. We may also know someone in your area that can help you out if you rather.

What would I seal with if my sink is installed? Not wanting aerosol varnish used inside the house

If you are not wanting to spray anything, the best you can do is the Smart Coat and then maintain it with the Metal Wax.

We have a copper sink that looked like yours in the video, husband bought it because it looked beautiful. Well we sealed it, but we have hard water, and 2 adult kids and him, who don't wipe up or rinse it after they are done😉 so it got discolored quickly. Copper showing through, rainbow patina, black spots, brown spots. I decided to take it down to bare copper. I then waxed it. What can i do to get patina back? I really like the look of the rainbow patina, is there an easy way to achieve this? Thank you!

I just had two hammered copper sinks put in that look exactly like the one in your video. We have hard water. I have been super good about using a cloth to wipe the water out. Yesterday I used a sponge instead and it mustn't have wiped up all the water real good (like the cloth) and when I got home, there were hard water marks all over the sink. What I actually noticed before the water marks, were orange marks. I used a the sponge and tried removing them, but actually made them a little bit worse. I was able to get the hard water marks out with some olive oil, but the orange marks are still there....not super noticeable, but noticeable to me. I think I can fix this thanks to your video. I try to live in a chemical free home....and would prefer not to use the solvent. If I can get the color right and not have to use the steel wool, do I need the solvent? Lastly, what is the difference between Smart Coat and metal wax? Thank you very much!!!!
@sculptnouveau5 жыл бұрын
The orange coming through is likely the copper showing through. You should be able to touch it up easily with a brown patina. You should not need to steel wool if the patina touches it up nicely. You will need to clear coat it however. So Smart Coat is a water based sealer but will not last long term. I would try the wax. It will be less smelly than Clear Guard or Ever Clear. It will also be easy to maintain over the years, but you will need to maintain it periodically.

I need help, I accidentally left a cup with a little bit on vinegar on my sink and it got rid of the rust on the sink (my parents are gonna kill me if they find out) so will this video work for my problem? I don’t want to test it because I don’t want to mess up the sink even more.

We just bought a house that has copper sinks but they have horrible hard water stains on them. What can i do to treat it?
@sculptnouveau5 жыл бұрын
Depending on how rough they look, might be easier to scuff them up really good and start over with a new patina. You can email us a picture and I would be happy to make a recommendation. You can email us at info@sculptnouveau.com
