I made a trap,simular to a minnow trap but much larger. I use mice for bait. I catch copperheads and timber rattlers. I make good money selling their skins.

I currently keep 4 of the 5 subspecies of Copperheads along with a number of Rattlesnake species, & these animals are incredibly fascinating creatures if you take the time to just stop & gain some understanding of them instead of just killing them for no reason like so many people do

Mark Butler: Actually, that's not true at all. I've handled hundreds of snakes in the last 50 years and I have NEVER been bitten. MOST often when people get bitten it's because they did something wrong. Depending on HOW you handle a snake you can somewhat calm it down for the most part. It's when you start to let your guard down and you slip up that you get bitten. But that motto you just mentioned is what has kept me from getting bitten every single time so it definitely serves a purpose.

I hope you like rodents because without snakes you would have a lot of them. Depending where you live you only have up to 3 venomous snakes to look out for(rattlers, watermoccassins & copperheads) so it makes more sense to just learn what they look like and kill them if they are around your house. Snakes are amazing animals that are important to the ecosystem and lots of us love them just like you would any other animal so please don't kill them just out of fear. I can understand killing venomous snakes near your house but otherwise please don't kill them.

@@dbros2656 How many times do you think that I have dealt with this same argument in favour of slithering venomous serpents? I don't know the actual answer to that because I've lost count. I have had the same thing put to me over and over again and everytime I have had to put the same counter argument. I've got to the point where I'm sick of saying it but I'll say it one more time for you. In Great Britain there are lots and lots of venomous adders. People don't see them because, just like your copperheads, they are very well camouflaged. They don't actually kill that many mice anyway and they are probably way too small to take on a decent sized rat. Anyway, I transgressed somewhat. Just across the water - the Irish sea - is the island of Ireland. St. Patrick banished all of the snakes from Ireland so there are no snakes there at all. Ireland has no greater rat or rodent population than Great Britain. We see a similar example with New Zealand and Australia. The biggest difference there is that Australia is absolutely running alive with venomous snakes (and still there is no shortage of rodents). I really wish that you snake-loving fuckwits would stop telling such lies about the benefits of having snakes. Apart from making things like watch straps from their skins, the benefits are extremely limited. I suppose somebody will now chirp in about all the thousands of medicines that are made from snake venom: another lie. Just remember: the best snake is called the dead snake. If it slithers, creeps or crawls: kill it. In fact, even if it isn't slithering: kill it. Remember folks; it's only the head that bites. Remove the head: remove the danger (just be aware that the head can bite up to 2 hours after it has been decapitated). Best be sure and stomp on the head 7 or 8 times.

@@glennharrison7036 It is true snakes don't eat that often but their diet is mostly insects and rodents so I am sure it helps with pest control. I think the fear of snakes is some natural ingrained thing a lot of people have, but killing any snake regardless of whether it might be a threat or not seems like an overreaction. If its on your property that's one thing but in nature snakes are in their element and only help an ecosystem so it just seems wrong to think we are entitled to kill off nature that we find distasteful. I am not saying your a bad person and a lot of people feel the same way you do but as a snake owner and person that understands snakes I find it frustrating to see and I know their are a lot of other people too that appreciate snakes assuming their not around their house.

You are not only in a different country to me but you are in a different continent, so things and attitudes are bound to be a bit different. Where I live, the chances of a venomous snake being on my property is so remote it is not really worth considering. Right at this moment, my older son is away in his campervan on the coast of North Wales. Earlier this very evening I urged him to make sure that his little dog is on a lead if ever they go into the sand dunes. The vast majority of snake bite victims are pet dogs that get bitten while rooting around. A great many of those poor dogs have to be put down. About 100 people a year also get bitten by these venomous snakes too. What really irks me is that these slithering, dangerous creatures enjoy lavish legal protection. In my opinion they certainly should receive no greater protection protection than a wood pigeon or a bunny rabbit. The snake-loving fraternity in Britain have been highly successful in pedalling this myth that adder venom is only mild. I know for a fact that that is an outright lie. You can look this up on a table of LD50. Another factor is that about 130,000 people are killed buy snakebite throughout the world each and every year. In addition to the that, about 5 1/2 million people are bitten but not killed by venomous snakes throughout the world. Many of those people never fully recover and some are left permanently disabled and disfigured; unable to fend for themselves or their families. My younger boy had a good little maxim of how to deal with various different creatures:- "Count the legs. More than 4: kill it! Less than 2: kill it!" Now I haven't seen many snakes at all but none of the snakes that I have ever seen have had any legs on them. Therefore, the course of action is obvious: kill it. The best snake is the dead snake.

@@glennharrison7036 I used to live in SA and people there had the same approach to snakes since a bite from a black mamba or puff adder usually meant death. The fear of snakes is definitely understandable but if you know a snake is harmless it makes no logical sense to me to kill it.
