"People having guns" is not an excuse for cops to run wild, without impunity, as they have been for decades. If you're afraid of armed citizens, don't be a cop. Speaking of crooked cops, right after this episode was filmed, they fired 70% of NOPD for being criminals.

I've noticed this in 1980s/early 90s footage of police: They conducted themselves in a much more nonchalant manner regarding how they would handle the situation. They would bust your balls, and maybe call you a moron, but it seems they were more hesitant to officially arrest someone. I saw this footage of an LAPD officer in 1991 pulling over a couple of gangbangers, one of which (the driver) had a suspended license and an active warrant. He didn't arrest them though. He chewed the driver out for driving with a suspended license, and told him to be an adult and go to the courthouse. He told them to leave the car parked on the side of the road and go to a nearby family member's house to go retrieve it. If that same interaction happened today, I think the cavalry would've been called, and both the driver and passenger would've been booked. Ultimately, I think police officers had more leeway in the early 90s to effectively do their jobs than they do now.

I no longer live there, but some of my best memories growing up in New Orleans are from the 70's and 80's when I was a very young. After the 80's ended, and I would say from about 1994 or 95, the city started to go downhill real fast, as more People started moving there from other parts of the country; and on top of that we had the 90's culture starting to take effect, and that had a terrible impact on the city. And It made it worse than it already was getting in spite of the new comers. I will say this, other cities that tried to mimic Mardi Gras in other cities like Seattle, had it end in disaster to the point they almost had to call out the national guard or something like 100 police officers one time. New Orleans seems to be the only city in America that can handle events like Mardi Gras year after year and not have it end up in disaster. There are terrible things that happen during Mardi Gras such as someone getting run over by a float which happened this year. New Orleans is an interesting place to visit, but I could never live there again. The city has way too many issues, and the suburban areas are no exception.

New Orleans got to love Marti Gras. The police have a huge job. They all deserve gold badges! Good going two thumbs up to our friends in uniform!

@@FliVids Lol 😂...I can write a book on the times we used to have but for purposes now I can describe it as this: attitudes and the way people dealt with each other were 💯. Those times were much more genuine and authentic than today the reason is the lack of social media. Able to be social with others were critical in shaping our values and lives, especially down here in New Orleans.

I still remember this episode especially the balcony scene I liked how the cop said to the women "Technically what you're doing is illegal but personally i don't care about the flashing part but we need you to cooperate with letting the crowds not get to thick because of pick pockets . ". Reasonable and cool level headed cops who knew how to spot real crime when they saw it/

Been to Mardi Gras plenty of times. The 1st thing you learn is to remember you're not from there. The atmosphere can phase you and the cops are pretty cool but DO NOT overstep yourself. The cops will tolerate a lot and let you party but they will arrest you.

I was looking for more episodes from 1989 through the related videos panel. I only clicked on this video to get more suggestions.. but then I heard “MARDI GRAS”. And well..
I love watching the older ones compared to the new ones. Too bad they never play the old ones on tv. Always the same ones over and over again.
