Being from KY this is the norm unfortunately. I have been thrown in the back of a cop car handcuffed and had the cop punch me multiple times in the face. I was 18 and drunk at Taco Bell and already in the back of the car. Yet I was still beat up. I know when I went to file a complaint with the Sergeant who was my neighbor at the time he just brushed me off and told me that I should not be drinking and out in public because his daughter looked up to me (she was friends with my sister) and the cop that beat me up was later caught embezzling money from the police department and nothing was ever done to him besides a slap on the wrist. It’s a shame and pathetic.

Thank you for everything you do.. I just recommended your channel to a coworker who was dragged out of his car at gunpoint at a traffic light over a so called theft earlier in the day, which is impossible since the kid was working with me when the incident supposedly occurred ..what makes it more ironic is he was in a poor neighborhood that is mostly Hispanic that I had used to live in , I know those cops are out of control since when I lived there I didn’t have a car and was stopped daily by out of control cops.. from helicopters and 2 marked cars intercepting me walking home from White Castle at night, to undercover detectives trying to bully me, which always failed spectacularly because I followed flex your rights yt channel, but my coworker isn’t as lucky because he is a 21 yr old Hispanic male with a previous criminal record.. I have gave him a link to your channel , as well as info for the aclu of NY..I worry about my apprentice, yea he has a past , but he is a good kid that is misunderstood..when he first started working, he would get angry at little things ,but I saw potential in him.. 8 months later , he is like a little brother to me.. I think 95% of people who are “criminals “ by the state are often just misguided, need somebody to be their big brother/ sister, somebody to mentor them..I stand up for him daily at work, always try and teach him something, and it makes my heart smile that every morning he walks in, gives me a fist bump ,a smile, and says let’s get this day done …he is a shining example that the reason we have an out of control prison system is because some of those people have reacted to a system that punishes people instead of picking them up, brushes them off and giving them a support system .. I also want to say if we ever had a mentorship diversion program, sign me up..

I have seen the video of the Sandra Bland encounter; your version of the event is pure and utter gaslighting. (I offer respect to Sandra's family and express my sorrow for her death. She was a responsible citizen with a promising future which makes her parting all the more tragic.) If Sandra had conducted herself in any social setting the way she interacted with that police officer she would have found herself sitting alone or, in a less civil setting, with her face slapped. She was rude and hostile right from the start for no reason other than that she didn't like being pulled over in a traffic stop. Police officers are not conflict resolution specialists. Taunting them in law enforcement encounters will almost certainly come to an unpleasant end.

It's ridiculous of you to say that police are "eager to criminalize" citizens. Police have a job to do, which is to keep criminals from doing too much damage to society. They often don't know who the criminal is in the moment so they investigate. Your job as a law abiding citizen is to cooperate with the investigation until they're satisfied the criminal is not you. Cooperating seems a more sensible thing to do than provoking all the unnecessary consequences portrayed in these videos.

@@garyhoddinott9076 There's an issue with what's known as police 'investigations'. Instead of investigating after they have clear evidence of a crime, police have a habit of 'investigating' a 'crime' before there is evidence of one based on suspicion of whatever they can get you on. Meaning they are making up a narrative in their head based on their opinion instead of facts. Things aren't always what they look like but we will suffer indignities and rights being trampled because cops are always looking to "score". Your JOB as *a law abiding citizen* is to protect your own rights, bc cops sure ain't gonna do it. You suggest non cooperation justifies retaliation bc "they have a job to do".

@@christophwilhelm6431 As a society we have placed police in a very tough position. We ask them to protect us from criminals while at the same time asking them to respect our rights as citizens. The problem for police is that criminals and citizens are not distinctly identified. In the process of intercepting criminals, rights are sometimes bruised. In the process of respecting rights, criminals often escape capture. Since the two ends of this dichotomy will never meet we as a society have to make a choice. So what will it be, unchecked crime or voluntarily waived rights when called upon in a routine police stop? It takes a mature, thoughtful adult to first recognize the problem and then, after reflection, make the choice. Where do you stand?

@@garyhoddinott9076 "In the process of intercepting criminals, rights are sometimes bruised." This is saying for crime to be stopped innocent people's rights must be violated. Once A cop has gone to the length of violating rights with a (purposely) flimsy 'standard' of cause or suspicion that hasn't led to uncovering a crime, they 'discretion' their way into charging that person to cover their azz. This is not policing and it's all too common. "As a society we have placed police in a very tough position. We ask them to protect us from criminals while at the same time asking them to respect our rights as citizens." They are not protecting anyone from criminals when they are creating criminals to advance their careers and those of their local legal system. The position they are in is called a TRUST and that trust has been progressively abused since the mid seventies. If you are trying to make a case for a positive societal role when they're petty as sht exploiting every little thing and using 'suspicion' to initiate 'investigations' where no crime is present(some might even call that 'criminal'), you have a long way to go.

This episode is fantastic, as always, Taya! It's so upsetting to be confronted with solid evidence that our supposed-to-be protectors have no interest or intent to actually protect us. Instead they are only interested in protecting & ensuring the perpetuation of the $$ flow that funds their department and their paychecks! Which, of course, comes largely from the citizens that they ensnare in their web of fines, fees & costs... And the only thing that is able to get their attention and make changes to their policies is the threat to their insurance policy from the insurance company! I love your show and the underlying insights you bring into focus for us about how so many of the police continue to brazenly continue their senseless acts of violence against those they are charged to protect.

I was always a supporter of police and military. However, in my lifetime I've seen them go from Officers of the Peace (Andy Griffith) to Law Enforcement (SWAT raids for misdemeanor's). My college room mate became a police officer in Southern California. For the first 10 years he was proud of what he did. By the time he hit 18 years he quit, leaving without his pension and benefits because of what the force had turned into. The politics and tactics being used were something he couldn't be a part of. The leaders of the towns police force were all political animals, cooking the stat's to make themselves look good and ordering crackdowns for asset forfeiture and media diversions. The new incoming recruits were mostly guys coming back from the middle east wars and had a completely different type of training. The citizens were being viewed as potential insurgents instead of citizens with rights. The brass loved this new viewpoint and the guys being trained to follow orders and do as they were told. Not the fault of the new recruits, they should have been trained to follow the Constitution instead of the articles of war. Policing a war zone (Abu Ghraib) and policing the streets of a Constitutional Republic where people have enumerated rights are two very different jobs. Unfortunately, most of the 'good' officers in that department have quit and moved on to other types of jobs. There was no 'fixing it' from within with the political leadership that was in place.

That men are coming fresh out of service and becoming Police Officers. They treat us regular citizens like we're the enemy. It's like their mentality is so cold. Their too abrasive and don't know how to communicate. Their all too willing and eager to use their guns and other ways of force. Basically, their "Programmed'.

I was stopped in an unannounced license checkpoint in Alleghany county VA a few years ago. Only 2 cops at the checkpoint, stopping literally every car, & the checkpoint lasted an hour or less. After they caught me they left. Based on everything I've read & heard from lawyers, none of those are in compliance with the law. However I don't know if there's any real difference legally between license checkpoints & DUI checkpoints. 🤷 But the worst part is I tried to get a public defender for my case. There is no public defender's office in Alleghany county VA. I made phone calls, sent emails, & still to this day I don't know how to get a public defender in Alleghany county VA. Now THAT is something I think should be looked into. We have a right to have an attorney. & I know public defenders are oftentimes useless but sometimes they're better than nothing, especially when you don't know your rights or the laws or how the legal system works...& at the time I didn't. But I wish someone would look into why there are no public defenders there, because like I said, 5 or so years later I still don't know how to. I could be wrong, but seems really unconstitutional to me.

Thank you PAR for another informative look at today's tyranny. I am afraid that even though your hard work and effort is accurate it falls short of just how high that this systematical and methodical corruption goes. Most police people will not ever be held accountable for their deliberate abuse and physical attacks on the innocent people that they encounter. This tyranny comes from the top down and as long as these authoritative agencies are used to protect the corrupt politicians that they serve and not the people, we will never have a police system that protects and serves the public.

He fought it, but lost. I came to the conclusion that in this incident was salvation for the people. Many professions are required to carry insurance, just as automobile operators are. Some are in case of a suit that would end their business, some are required, such as bail-bond companies. My idea is that ALL police officers be required to carry professional insurance. If a cop has no issues, his insurance would remain minimal. Cities should also pay a minimal amount(~50%) as part of a perk, but only of the base premium. However, should he have a poor record and/or job related suits, his premiums would go up, but the city would not pay any part over 50% of the base premium. Sooner or later, a bad cop will be un-insurable and his career will come to an end. As well, just as ones driving record is nation-wide, their insurance rates are reflected by it regardless their location. Cops would no longer be able to go down the road and be re-hired. Another point you make is that it is not just cops who are responsible for the mess we see today. Prosecutors, police chiefs, mayors and all others in the 'chain of command' are very much responsible. While requiring job related insurance in these cases is probably not feasible, public oversight should be much more in depth and those in these positions should be held accountable. Unfortunately, it is the people themselves who are at fault for this. When people do not stand up for one another, this is what we get. Another thing that would help is if those officers that are present at a violation do nothing to stop or prevent escalation or violence, they should also be held accountable as accessories or abettors. The single most influencing and deciding factor in virtually every case, especially where there is police misconduct is the police unions. These associations are as close to organized crime as any organization could be. Many times it is found that these associations have promoted, protected and encouraged this blue line defense...coercing officers, city officials, lawyers and the public through gangland-style tactics. They should be brought under closer scrutiny under RICO investigations. One other thing that greatly influences how our police act, regardless their departmental rules, is training by outside agencies. Our police have become increasingly militarist, which is a direct result of this training. They are being trained as anti-terrorist agents, not police officers. This is reflected in their interactions with the public that they are increasingly viewing as the enemy (terrorists), not citizens. This has to stop. A funny (almost) synchronicity? This coincides with the change from traditional police blue uniforms to 'special ops' (military) black uniforms. This change alone shows the change in mindset. Thanks for all your efforts to educate the public and to raise public awareness on these issues. Change will not come without efforts like yours. Again, many thanks!

Why do I have the feeling the cop wanted to pull her out of the car because it had something to do with them being a mixed race couple.

I agree. It is ingrained in too many Americans , mostly southerners. Even viewing the States from my comfortable chair above the 49th parallel, this is known.

Reasonable articulable suspicion of doubt. They didn’t give any of that.
