A lot of times it's because someone calls to complain. Never seems to fail. But also if it's an area known for this type of activity , their will be days where special stings would be carried out by the police so it just becomes a game of cat and mouse until everyone decides to go home.

Another reason is accidents, then it’s fatalities, EMS/Fire, PD, Sheriffs, Troopers. It’s cheaper to just try to avoid all that before it starts or ASAP. It’s mostly about $$$ and bad press!!!

We street raced 40 years ago and I don't want to say the police allowed it but we were in a remote area with no traffic 1/4 mile drag racing....and self policed the jackasses......so I think as long as there was no complaints or accidents it kept all the racers from busy areas ...and did for years with very few issues...going on highways with regular traffic is just stupid

So there is a car meet on a parking lot. As police, you have a choice. Either leave a single cop car to post on the same parking lot and let them chill there until they leave. OR force them away many at speed and opportunities to race. after which they go to an alternative spot. You need a dozen more cop cars to track them, potentially causing chases and you're back to them still holding a meeting but somewhere else.
