my question, then, is how much of what the copyeditor does is, FIRST, on the writer herself? i get that you don't want to make the copyeditor do more work (for their sake, in terms of time sink, and also for the writer's sake, in terms of potential cost), but where is the reasonable line? "make it as good as you can," the advice says, but when is it too much? when is it time to let go and let The Copyeditor?
