I love when nature restoration projects also have a real impact on local economies, providing jobs for local, skilled folks like Yudi, Chansa, and Pak. Especially because the project isn't extractive, so all of the good of the work stays in the local community. Awesome stuff.

It makes me teary eyed to see the beautiful reef fish trying to live around freshly laid structures...the contrast is startling. Coral really does provide half the beauty of reefs.

This is really heart-warming to hear. We're hoping projects like this can help protect and restore these precious and beautiful ecosystems for years to come

Thank you so much! We'll try our best to repair this stretch of reef. The team are working hard to deploy and maintain the coral fragments to help them survive and establish. We'll keep you updated!

I recently saw a video from someone else in Indonesia doing the same technique He was able to show 5 yrs worth of growth and my mine was blown The coral had fully grown and bloomed around the structures and biodiversity was back in abundance

That's amazing to hear! We're pleased with the initial signs of coral growth around our structures. There's plenty of work to be done to bring back coral abundance here too but the team is making good progress in a short space of time. We'll keep you updated as we go!

Love to see your work and impact. ❤ Iam wondering why you are using plastic zip ties and not metal wiring that rusts away after time?
@MossyEarth-FieldNotes2 ай бұрын
Hi! That's a great question, we're actually running a trial to test different materials to attach fragments (we explain everything at the bottom of our project page in the section entitled 'Researching Coral Attachment' here www.mossy.earth/projects/building-resilient-coral-reefs) but basically based on the evidence, cable ties provide the most secure attachment for transplanted coral fragments because they won’t degrade before the coral has had time to form its own attachment to the substrate. Look out for an update on the trial in upcoming vlogs. Thanks for following!
