I was born and raised in Dubai and let me tell you this is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to exotic animals being sold. I am a firm believer that wild animals belong in their rightful habitat and NOT in cages. Sure some of the cages are clean and maintained well, but it's quite sad to see overcrowding in some of them as well. Its all about the status you hold and how well you can 'flex' that, which started the exotic trade. I have visited this place a few times and truly feel for all the animals that are caged up for days. The ones that get sold are considered the 'lucky ones' because God only knows what happens to the ones that aren't sold. When asked, every store owner says the same thing "they go back to the farm". It is just heart breaking to see this being done in one of the most developed countries in the world.
@foxy3711
@foxy3711 Жыл бұрын
None of these animals is lucky. Who knows who buys these and if the owners will provide a suitable habitat for them. I highly doubt that you can cover the needs of most of these animals in a desert like Dubai. And for each sold animal, another will be "produced" on farms or taken from the wild under cruel circumstances. How can anyone think it's a good idea to buy dogs from puppy mills in Ukraine, separate them from their mothers and transport them over thousands of miles to a desert?! I don't want to know how many animals die before they even reach the shop windows.
@TheBartholomeusz

@@foxy3711 exactly!! God knows what happens to the ones that dont get sold... i really do not like thinking about it. And on top of that they do the same for exotic animals, where does it end ? This is what tourists should know about Dubai, instead of thinking about the luxury buildings and cars.

Something doesn't feel right knowing you can buy a owl, technically a predator animal, for less than some breeds of dogs. Then see it caged up knowing how much space it needs AND the fact it's probably gonna die from stress.

I only frown upon the people keeping animals that they know are unhappy. Conservation by commercialization is key. With out these animals in captivity a disease could wipe out wild populations over night and we'd have no way to help. Also before you say let zoos keep them there's not enough zoos to save them all and most zoos rely and private keepers for their information.

@@bintangdilangit3348 Ye, it definitely depends and actually people breeding ethically in captivity can be seen as conservation methods, since it helps take the pressure of wild populations and people can get genuinely healthy well looked after animals and less demand seeks WC ones. Sadly, it is likely impossible to stop demand, so working on ethical captive breeding seems like some of the only ways to truly help that area, as honestly even banned people will just get them in ways that would be even more disastrous for animals.

It was great to see your shock and view you evaluating your ethics. Most of the birds I saw are birds you can have legally in most countries. I would think a majority of these are captive-bred for logistics and because they want the babies to be hand-fed for tameness, but birds absolutely do get smuggled and it wouldn't surprise me if they end up in places like this. Re your questions about the dogs: no, it's not okay how they're kept. Most of these conditions were heavily crowded, filthy, improper, and stressful, but it's important to remember that absolutely happens at shops in the US.

@@DeezNuts-hf2xm What I’ve seen it’s “normal ppl”, maybe middle class families that mostly shop there, it’s very strict and if u don’t follow the rules n laws in Dubai the consequences are very problematic for u. Hence why I think that it must be some really specific animals that they count as ”exotic” cause I don’t think the ”normal” family would take any risks.

Maybe concentrate on diminishing domestic cat ownership in your country. Do you know how many millions of wild birds a year they mame and kill? Don't worry about 5 meerkats, take on the bigger issues in your country regarding pet ownership and the devastating consequences cats inflict.

Most sanctuaries have to deny hundreds or thousands of wild animals like this a year because they don't have the room to give them proper care. This is a huge issue in the US also. People won't stop destroying wild animals lives out of selfishness

@guy8646 Жыл бұрын
@@ztlabraptor211 Yes, but Aprilla’s point is that when you get self-righteous about judging a foreign country for issues that exist in our very own county you tend to exempt your country from accountability because you think the “other guy” is doing a worst job. This isn’t quite the same as caring about two different things at once. This is about distracting ourselves from our reality but judging others.

@@guy8646 that logic would only apply if this video were about issues in America and someone said “country B is much worse” as a way to excuse or distract from it. This is a video directly about Dubai… so why wouldn’t people be addressing the issues present in the video ? Also while America does have plenty of issues, especially in terms of things like puppy mills, it’s pretty strict when it comes to purchasing exotics

They have exotic animal auctions in the United States and sell toucans and so many other animals you'd never even think to own as a pet. There's also a exotic animal selling website. They had hyenas for sale a few weeks ago. You had to have a zoo or animal park license but you can still buy weird animals on it. Several years ago they had a pregnant giraffe on it.

I haven't really seen an comment about the condition of the reptiles. Most of them definitely need bigger cages and uvb lighting. The feeding rats didn't look healthy so the snake could also get sick. Honestly it seems like something you see at reptile expos in the Netherlands and those last a day or two. I didn't see any sick or injured reptiles though.

Ye, unfortunately feeder rodents aren't bred for health, but thankfully for a lot of reptilians UVB isn't a necessity for living, so we can only hope they get the proper care to allow as many chances to thrive with whoever gets them.
