I was born and raised in Dubai and let me tell you this is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to exotic animals being sold. I am a firm believer that wild animals belong in their rightful habitat and NOT in cages. Sure some of the cages are clean and maintained well, but it's quite sad to see overcrowding in some of them as well. Its all about the status you hold and how well you can 'flex' that, which started the exotic trade. I have visited this place a few times and truly feel for all the animals that are caged up for days. The ones that get sold are considered the 'lucky ones' because God only knows what happens to the ones that aren't sold. When asked, every store owner says the same thing "they go back to the farm". It is just heart breaking to see this being done in one of the most developed countries in the world.
@foxy3711
@foxy3711 2 жыл бұрын
None of these animals is lucky. Who knows who buys these and if the owners will provide a suitable habitat for them. I highly doubt that you can cover the needs of most of these animals in a desert like Dubai. And for each sold animal, another will be "produced" on farms or taken from the wild under cruel circumstances. How can anyone think it's a good idea to buy dogs from puppy mills in Ukraine, separate them from their mothers and transport them over thousands of miles to a desert?! I don't want to know how many animals die before they even reach the shop windows.
@TheBartholomeusz
@TheBartholomeusz 2 жыл бұрын
@@foxy3711 exactly!! God knows what happens to the ones that dont get sold... i really do not like thinking about it. And on top of that they do the same for exotic animals, where does it end ? This is what tourists should know about Dubai, instead of thinking about the luxury buildings and cars.

Something doesn't feel right knowing you can buy a owl, technically a predator animal, for less than some breeds of dogs. Then see it caged up knowing how much space it needs AND the fact it's probably gonna die from stress.

I only frown upon the people keeping animals that they know are unhappy. Conservation by commercialization is key. With out these animals in captivity a disease could wipe out wild populations over night and we'd have no way to help. Also before you say let zoos keep them there's not enough zoos to save them all and most zoos rely and private keepers for their information.

America is a pretty low bar itself though when it comes to exotic pets. The stores being clean isn't the issue, it's the trade and eventual ownership of the animals being in the hands of people who want them just because they're a novelty and have no business caring for them.

It was great to see your shock and view you evaluating your ethics. Most of the birds I saw are birds you can have legally in most countries. I would think a majority of these are captive-bred for logistics and because they want the babies to be hand-fed for tameness, but birds absolutely do get smuggled and it wouldn't surprise me if they end up in places like this. Re your questions about the dogs: no, it's not okay how they're kept. Most of these conditions were heavily crowded, filthy, improper, and stressful, but it's important to remember that absolutely happens at shops in the US.

@@bintangdilangit3348 Ye, it definitely depends and actually people breeding ethically in captivity can be seen as conservation methods, since it helps take the pressure of wild populations and people can get genuinely healthy well looked after animals and less demand seeks WC ones. Sadly, it is likely impossible to stop demand, so working on ethical captive breeding seems like some of the only ways to truly help that area, as honestly even banned people will just get them in ways that would be even more disastrous for animals.

@@Maspets if you can create a suitable Environment in your home for those Animals, then I don’t have a problem with it; however, most People don’t have that kind of money because you’re talking about spending over $100,000-1,000,000 on their Environment alone. Also a lot of those Animals are captured from the Wild and they are not domesticated. Domestication can stress Animals out too and they can have shorter life spans.

@@guy8646 that logic would only apply if this video were about issues in America and someone said “country B is much worse” as a way to excuse or distract from it.
