I always thought that Coraline blocking the bedroom door had something to do with her inability to move into the "real" world. Also, the toy Octopus said "What’s Shakin' Baby" when Coraline sees the other bedroom for the first time. Thanks for featuring my drawings and comment. My last name is pronounced "Mick-Abe"

The way you decribe it kind of reminds me of how in Wandavision as time goes on the illusions of the Hex will start to go and a lot of the extras will just stand still or repeat actions.

The Other Father doesn't at all come across as a meat puppet for the Beldam, rather he's just a coward who's absolutely terrified of her. She cannot actually make him move his limbs, her machines (piano, tractor) have to grab his arms and then either move or restrain them.

2:33 it’s almost like the Beldam is speaking through it or something……”What’s wrong Coraline? Don’t you want to play together?”

What I think is so super cool is that the notes the other father played at the beginning are the same notes/tune that he played when Coraline walked in on the other father plunking at the piano in the dark

I always thought that other wybies sad / guilty expression, AKA refusal to smile was just to symbolize to viewers how the real wybie feels but now that you've explained it, that definitely makes sense, the other mother spent time and energy making coraline a new outfit and preparing food so she was probably exhausted, so it was probably getting difficult pupetrearing her puppets, Also too for the heck of it, I want to point out something I realized, During coralines final trip to the other world and the cat says to her that the other mother may not play fair but she's got a thing for games, I realized that in paranorman, norman says to agitha, (you play this mean game and you don't play fair) So agitha likes games and she doesn't play fair, hmm wonder who she got that from? Lol I do believe there is a connection, its too much of a coincidence. Dispite how dark and twisted the beldams love is, I think in a strange way, with all that she's capable of, the beldam is capable of being a good mother, I mean if she can impress other people's children than I'm sure she can impress her own. Agitha expressed a lot of love for her mother, you made a good point in your connection video saying how its strange that they would make a big deal about agitha mom but they don't show the women. They don't even say her name, Who's else's name do we not know? (The other mother) her true identity remains a mystery, My thoughts, they don't say agitha moms identity because there is no identity, she doesn't know her own identity because of her memory loss. The thing I don't get is the children portraits on her wall, if she has some past victim portraits on her wall, why not have all her victims on her wall? Which leaves me to wonder if agitha was not the beldams only child, Do you think its possible that she could have had more children after losing agitha and maybe that's who the children portraits are? I think that would make sense because if she did have more children, it would have been a very long time ago, if those are past victims I don't the the pictures would look like sillowets when pictures would be more modernized by this point. Oh yeah I forgot to say congratulations on your engagement💗 I've seen coraline at least several times, I remember the first time I watched it but I 'll save that story for another time

Hello, Megan! Thank you so very much for having shared such a fascinating theoretical framework. I personally wanted to share that I completely agree with each of your respective theories regarding Coraline's complete inability to leave the Other World and more than that, I also wholeheartedly agree with all of the details that signal that she is interdimensionally displaced. Something that I have noticed in the various viewings that I have engaged in as a young adult is that there are many different references to both Stephen King and H.P Lovecraft cannonicity in the structure of the film adaptation. With regards to the several references to Lovecraft, I find that there are various allusions to the stories of both "Pickman's Model" and "Cthulu." In the original character designs for the Beldam, it is heavily implicated that she became an extension of the Other World by being defenestrated down the starry-skied well/interdimensional portal near The Pink Palace as her gown completely looks as though it were made from the cilindrical shape of the well and her hair is completely aloof and it looks wet, somehow as though she were floating whilst suspended in the air, implying that she was perhaps thrown down this well upside down by the fearful townspeople of Ashland, Oregon, and even though she is more of an Eldritch Fae Spirit than she is described as a traditional witch, the cat does seem to assert that she is in fact a "Witch"; but this can be assumed as he motions to Coraline as though he were to have a look of profound knowing. In "Pickman's Model"; a young and deeply gifted Bostoninan artist soon starts to experience strange occurences in his life that allude to the fact that he once had ancestors who perished during the Witch Hysteria phenomenon and in both paternal and maternal branches of his family's lineage and it is additionally implicated that the brilliant yet disturbing artwork that he creates is somehow connected to the abilities of his ancestors. That very same provocation of fear and terror that his ancestors elicited in others, he subconciously provoked in other individuals through his haunting artistry. Although the Beldam's status as a witch is not explicitly confirmed, she does use various morturary tools to change the form of the doll depending on the child that she is targeting so perhaps the specific kind of magic that she utilizes is either in some way related to reality manipulation and necromancy summoning as well. Coraline's one-eyed Squid Plushie additionally could be a reference to Cthulu, an interdimensional being from Lovecraftian lore who is an amalgamation between a dragon and a Kraken-like being who bears a very interesting feature that relates to the portal that leads to the Other World. Everytime Cthulu's name is verbally spoken, he is summoned closer and closer to your location and in the very scene in which The Beldam pleas for Coraline to stay as she claimed that she would "Die without her"; the portal in of itself acted as a living palpable being just like in the original source material as the portal would chime closer and closer towards Coraline's direction, almost as though it sought to encase her and as if the portal itself was helping The Beldam reach out to her and drag her until The Cat intervened. I also have a micro theory regarding the three other children's cameo silohuettes that were mounted on the wall and how this pertains to the order of the Ghost Children's dissappearances and murders. I believe that the Beldam once had a family of three children whose genders corresponded to those of the three previous victims that came before Coraline and when she was presumably executed, her children probably suffered a fate that was far worse and to justify her narcissistic need for companionship, she started molding children into her own image and treating them as dolls but as soon as the children found out about the truth she completely changed the way in which she would manipulate them and subjected them to the same level of torture that her "supposed" children were probably subjected to as well. If you notice the facial features of the Pilgrim Ghost Child, she looks extremely similar to The Other Father and Charlie Jones in the "real world", almost as though she could have been Coraline's paternal ancestor. I believe that when the Other Father started to internalize the severity of what the Beldam had done, he started to form a bond with this particular child and when she unfortunately perished, he viewed it as his first failure to save a child from his Creator because he could not understand human emotions but from then onwards, he was oversaturated with humanity in his programming so that the Beldam's world could become more appealing. In the scene in which Coraline finds The Other Father sorrowfully/dissonantly playing notes on the piano and the piano's gloves grimace and contort his face, it is made to be in the exact same expression that the Pilgrim Ghost Child had died in, almost as though the Beldam were mocking him and telling him that he would fail to save Coraline like he failed to save that little girl all of those years ago. I would love to hear your particular thoughts on these original theories. Thank you so much!
@saylor2117 ай бұрын
You mentioning how the other father was playing the piano was childish, what if all the puppets in the other world were all the children the beldam captured? After they are behind the mirror long enough to forget she takes their souls and turns them to puppets. This would make sense with your idea that the silhouettes are different kids, but we never see them. The kids behind the mirror can still remember that the beldam put them in their place, and even mentioned they are losing their memory to coraline. Bobinsky spink and forcible have all been long time residents so that makes sense why they dont want to help coraline, they are the oldest kids with the least memories but characters like the other father and whybie are more recent with not enough memories to know what the beldam did to them, but knows she is bad. ❤️ Another thing i noticed was when mel leaves the house, the other mother leaves the house, i wonder if mel is gone when the other mother is recharging (small deatail but still interesting)

Made it to the end :) I really like the idea of the Beldam shifting her power to control different "puppets" that are sentient, but can be forced under her control. I'm wondering what is being used to power them and their sentience while they aren't being controlled by the Beldam.

Amazing explanation and theory. Totally agree with the puppets and her using her energy in those ways. I don’t think she sleeps though I think she gets her energy from love from the child or from eating children

If Other Father and Other Wybie are just extensions of the Beldam, Other Wybie could just be expressing some of the Beldam's guilt that she wants to repress.

I agree more with the idea of the buttons being a Red Herring. They're meant to fool Coraline into thinking that if there are normal eyes she can't be in the other world. The Beldam never intended to actually sew the buttons on Coraline's eyes.

I think the puppets have traces of their originals in them. The Beldam has to base her puppets on things from the real world, and some way or another I think the source being based in an actual personality of real living people gives them the least bit of free will that leaks out when the Beldam is weak or not focusing all her power on them.

I have seen coraline some many times and I have yet to scratch the surface of it secrets and to miss fan girl I have a possible theory that I need to try and figure out how it works ( my theory goes that for how the other mother charges her self i think she more than likely goes to her room and creates in her head of millions of ways to catch coraline under her own control

now personally i dont think the other mother lives in the other house she has her own pocket dimension sewing room thing that she rests in so i think her leaving the other father there is like a screen saver on an old computer something there to make the other world more stable and not burn out and normally the other father doesnt exist if coraline goes home and if she is trapped forever he become an coraline father replica so she left him there as a way to keep coraline there as a punishment for refusing her offer of buttons and making her have to use the power consuming other world limbo like i think that if she was awake the white space would be well and forest but because she is recharging in her sewing room the other world only preserved the home screen.

I'm really curious to know why didn't coraline transport back to her real room even though she did sleep for some time! What is so different about her 3rd visit? I wonder if it has any thing to do with the beldam's powers. You know what if she was letting her get back home because she was sure coraline will come back and this time is different because the other mother sensed sth about coraline's scape attempt?
