Beautiful seat. I have a Corbin on my CB500X. Taken it across America twice. The seat makes all the difference.

I'm unfortunately away currently. But can share some directions that might help hopefully. When looking at the base of the fuel tank you'll see two slots where the seat tab with leather on it will insert. Insert the tab into the lower slot. Do so at deep angle and using a down and forward push. If you've not inserted a couple washers under your rear seat pan base plate you might want to by unscreeing it and sandwiching them inbetween the base plate and seat pan. Otherwise the base plate latch might not snap in to the seat lock mechanism due to it not having enough grab. After inserting the seat into the lower fuel tank tab keep pressure forward while at the same time lowering the rear of the seat down towards the key latch. Once the seat base plate is resting on the lock mechanism keep one hand up front on the seat holding it in place with pressure, then take your other hand and make a super karate chop with a glancing type blow onto the pillion portion of the seat. This should pop the seat pan base plate into the lock. The seat will be very tight in there and not wiggle around and you might hear the material frictioning up against the fuel tank a bit. I then did not remove the seat until I was beyond 2,000 miles so as it would break in. I never was able to remove the washers from the base plate as it still would not grab without them. I hope this was helpful.

how much higher does it get you ? I am 180cm and its most UNcomfy with the std pegs. I need them lowered about 3" if possible. ; along with jack up and higher seat.
@findingneutral
@findingneutral 2 жыл бұрын
I'd say it doesn't make you higher, but what it does do is spread your legs apart more. The stock seat was more narrow towards the tank which allowed better ground reach. This seat is wider close to the tank making it harder to reach the ground. None the less, I absolutely love how comfy it is and would not swap back.

What's the height compared to standard? I need to lower mine, thank you 👍
@findingneutral
@findingneutral 2 жыл бұрын
I just measured it with the bike upright and its lowest point. Measured 32 inches. In my opinion this seat does not help lowering the rider at all. If anything I felt the wider saddle spread the legs outward more making it harder to reach the ground. I brought this up to Corbin and they were willing to shave the seat down for me. I opted not to as I need maximum comfort for my bad back. I'd check other brands for a lower height. This one is definitely comfy but not short rider friendly as it comes.

@@findingneutral thank you for checking, I was thinking if it lowered the rider I would purchase one and take of my lowering links off.
@findingneutral
@findingneutral 2 жыл бұрын
@@Lynt144 I was literally just looking up lowering links myself. I've tried not doing those as I recall not liking what they did to a Kawasaki KLR650 I had in the past. I had put a Corbin and lowering links on it. Got me closer but the ride felt a bit weird in the end. So I've opted to try not doing that now. Was rethinking it though as I went to tip over 3 times the other day from not being SUPER careful doing slow maneuver u turns. Did you also lower your front triple tree settings to keep everything even? Taller folks don't know how good they have it in the bike realm.
@Lynt144

@@findingneutral I'm based in the UK, used Lust racing links lowering the bike 30mm but i didn't lower the front end. The cornering is a little odd but I put that down to the tyre's 50/50 road/off road now I'm not so sure and will try lowering the front end. 🤔 Only reason for not doing it before is the bike is more up right and I just got away with not getting a shorter side stand, will need to buy a adjustable one before I try it....Oh and the centre stand is a lot harder to use with the new links and will probably not work at all with the front end lowered!

I was looking at the Russell day long seat. Very pricey. Over $500.
@findingneutral
@findingneutral Жыл бұрын
I know. Seat prices are ridiculously high, but it's for your butt. With all my orthopedic issues I'm going say my Corbin seat(s) have really let me ride longer and much more comfortably. My CB500X seat has been worth every penny. Coming up on almost 8k miles with it. Good luck getting something you like. I know it's a hard decision. On another note, even getting my Trail125 seat professionally recrafted (talk about a HARD seat) it was still $350. Were mostly paying for the craftsmanship in the end.

What is the reason to go for a custom seat?
@findingneutral
@findingneutral 3 жыл бұрын
Good question. I think it depends completely on the rider and what works best for them. In my case I'm older and have low back issues so comfort was and is the main reason for me looking for seat I feel is more accommodating. I figure since I was doing it might as well customize it to match the bike color wise. I know many folks will prefer just basic non custom colors though to keep it simple. This might be one of my last bike purchases so I figured why not go for the gusto. Plus with my riding I'm mostly just cruising around country back roads and this seat seems great for that. I think the oem seat is definitely suited better for folks who are taking it to the extreme and focusing more off road. All boils down to preference I guess.

@@findingneutral At one point I was thinking about custom seat due to a pain in my butt after 3 hours or more ride but I kind of used to it and now custom seat is a priority. Now I am planning how to go to Alaska next year 😀
@findingneutral

@@MotoPavilion I have to say this seat eliminates sore ass right out the box. Even on short rides with the oem seat I found in my case there was discomfort. For a loooong ride to Alaska for instance, I think it would be a worthy upgrade to help with your overall rider comfort level. They even make them with a heated option I believe.

I just put the same seat on my 2022 and yes, it fits super loose in the front. It was getting dark so I didnt have a chance to mess with it. Can you elaborate more on exactly the correct way to put it in place in the front? Are there two things to hook under and am I simply under the top one but not the bottom one ?
@findingneutral
@findingneutral 2 жыл бұрын
Sounds like you did exactly what I did initially. Yes there are two slot areas. The leather wrapped bar thing in the front of the seat pan gets slid into the lower opening thats located 'under' the spot your sticking it in. So basically it goes under the bottom part of the hole where the other seat tongue thing went. You'll have to insert it in at a downward angle. As your inserting it use a downward angle bit of pressure while at the same time dropping the rear of the seat as if you were going to try and push the metal lock tab thing into the seat lock. This next part looked challenging as I watched the Corbin tech do it. While holding the front in and downward with one palm take your other palm and do a hard angled karate chop like motion over the pillion seat. Like your trying to whack the pillion down and back towards the tail light area. Its going to be SUPER TIGHT AND SNUG. So your going to have to work it. You'll know you got it when you hear the lock engage. There is a possibly you may need to install a couple washers under the latch loop on the seat pan on your seat in order to give it enough grab to engage the lock. After break-in they said the washers can come out.I know these instructions sound whack. But I watched the tech do it and it worked like a charm. Honestly, I've never taken my seat off since and I'm at like 3,900 miles. I'm sure my seat is broken in by now though. Ultimately if you cannot get it let me know and I might do a video of this technique to try and help you. But I hope you get it. Once you do its rock solid with no wiggling around. Good luck.
