That Corby to Oakham service used to continue to Derby via the north side of the triangle at Syston before the Covid pandemic (another bit of rare track which is now only used by two early morning Nottingham to Norwich EMR services)

Brilliant video Nick, there was a Meridian diagram on the Leicester to Lincoln service from 2018 to 2020 so meridians have stopped at Syston Sileby and Barrow upon soar. I don't like it when it get's dark early in the winter months lol. I've done the route this once a day service does on engineering works weekends where Market Harborough was shut.

Must be a good idea to redo this in the summer as well - get the view off the top of the Harringworth Viaduct (the 82 arch leviathan that is the longest railway viaduct over a river valley in the country) on the way!

Worked on Corby old platform and the operational one during the redoubling phase of the K2C project and on the BSC branch back in 2018, it was a long walk from Corby to Manton as I recall… I just did a survey at Mountsorrel during the floods… did a video down at Sileby Marina … yep, working midlands is a real privilege… The canopy’s we worked on at Kettering, look beautiful in your video btw, but Market Harborough…. Well, that’s my station.😉

With Corby that only has 1 platform. Maybe there could be a 2nd platform to be built with a siding for Class 360s to use as a turn back coming from London St. Pancras. And with plans to electrify the Midland Main Line to Leicester and East Midlands Parkway and new Class 810 Bi-mode trains to start service sometime later this year.

Incidentally Corby is the station I use for work! Shame I couldn't see you, whenever you're in Northamptonshire I don't know you're here... I always thought it was strange that the trains from St Pancras terminated at Corby instead of extending to Nottingham and Derby as stopping services restoring the direct services from Luton, Bedford and Wellingborough to Nottingham that was removed in 2021

because the trains from london are electric ,they cannot go any further than corby, the one train the lads were on is diesel.

Slash Lane is apparently in the top 10 most flooded roads in the UK. Considering number 1 on that list is a tidal causeway to Mersea Island that is underwater at high tide ever day, it's quite some accomplishment. We call the fields nearby the Sea of Sileby for a reason! 😅

East Midlands Railway are to introduce their new Class 810 Aurora sometime later this year and to transfer the Class 222 Meridian to ScotRail or storage. I like how EMR have done to the Class 360 Desiro that were with Greater Anglia before.
@kevinellis88692 күн бұрын
There isn't very much to do in Syston if you're stuck there for 40 mins. The service is useful in that it allows EMR drivers to retain the route knowledge for the diversions mentioned. I seem to recall that some of the diverted services don't go back into Leicester, using the other side of the Syston triangle.

As an old fart I remember when Corby was reopened to great fanfare in the 1980's under the Speller act but the euphoria soon died and it was closed again. So sometime it's once again been reopened. Imagine living on the other side of the world and knowing that and all before the internet age.

TOCs have to run a London service to and from Melton Mowbray to give the people who live there (and Oakham) a direct service to and from London St Pancras, it started in the days of East Midlands Trains and has carried on since though Abellio want to stop it, luckily they haven't been allowed to. They aren't routed via Leicester as it's quicker to go via Manton and Corby.
