You cannot treat leukemia with your own stem cells, but someone else’s. That’s the right interpretation of the blood banks booklets. Many other diseases can also be treated with allogeneic cells, not autologous. In large scale, it rather makes sense to donate.

Community banking is claiming that there r hardly 8 to 10 out of over 80 diseases where one needs his own stem cell and the chances r very rare.. in most of th cases one will need third party doner which one wont get in private banking.. 2.also they claimed tht th HLA matching ratio between baby's cordblood and parents is 50%. Nd in order to proceed with th stem cell treatment u need at least 67% percent match.. so basically baby's cordblood isnt much useful for his/her immediate family members as well.. 3.they also claims, if its stored privately then for a third-party match, these private banks will approach world public banks n th chances of getting a match reduces remarkably as the origins, community, dna matching ratios varies. In short one will get his/her match more easily when approached own community banks. 4. And one more thing, if you don't mind me asking.. as u mentioned u went with an international private bank and u r from Indian origin.. so did u get this checked that what if one like u needs a doner, how much chances r there to get a match in a foreign land with a foreign company? Sorry for such a long post bt if u can guide me with these details, that will really b helpful..

I was told they could be used for close family members, but please double check with the company you choose. More therapeutic uses are being found every year, even if right now the use is limited, in the future I would like to have that option (my opinion of course)

Stem cells can be matched with other people too, so in public/community banking if someone has a match to your sample they will be given the sample. Similarly, if you sample is not available, you'll get the best match from the rest of the samples. This is as far as I know. Check with the individual companies for all the details before making any choice.

I believe that it is similar to public stem cell banking, where your stems cells are stored in a public bank, and people will get the best match in the pool. The advantage is that it is cheaper and you'll get a match from all the samples. But you are not guaranteed your own child's cells. There are pros and cons, and it is ultimately your call.

In Lifecell agreement paper they clearly mentioned some points which confusing me.. As per there agreement 1.They are not collecting tissues where as cordlife is collecting the tissues. 2.Umbilical cord means the blood inside umbilical cord and/or placenta..Is that much sufficient?? 3.Community banking system where they can use child umbilical cord blood specimen for non-exclusive use..The matching ratio is 40,000:1.what if they can do if they don't found the matching whose umbilical cord they used b4 tough they are giving 2,000,000 what is the use of that. 4.Lifecell disclaims any responsibility any fault for Transporter where as transporting is their responsibility..why the client suffer from their mistakes.. 5.most importantly they mentioned that child's own Umbilical cord blood specimen shall not be available for the child and/or its immediate family use.. What rubbish..then what the point of storing my baby umbilical cord blood specimen with you people.. 6.no assurances can be provided on the maintenance of viability for indefinite storage and specimen may lost due to machine failure or accidents.. Why we people suffer from your faults.. 7.client understand that no surety can be provided by third party courier or by Lifecell on the safe and timely transport..means you have to collect of your own..bullshit.. 8.no EMI facilities Guys..very much confused..after studying their agreement thorrowly is it a wise decision to go with Lifecell..plz reply...your suggestions are very much appreciated by us..Thanks in advance..

Why the child has same genetic problem at the first place ? The same stem cells passes the diesease to the child and the cure can’t be the same stem cell. Your stem cells which gives you the problem can’t help in resolving it. Someone who does not have that genetic problem (outside your family), one can take his steam hence you won’t able to use your stem cells if you wan to because of the reason o have given above. The information you have is half baked.
