Cordae is definitely what I'd call a backbone rapper. He is keeping the soul and essence of the art. He doesn't aim to make his own little niche thing that is hit or miss, and he doesn't chase the next new thing. He's just really good at being a rapper's rapper, and he's got good charisma which is always nice to see. And he face looks like nas which is funny to me

I agree with this whole heartedly. Since he’s connected to OGs like Q-Tip, Jada, Black Star, if he was to link up and help him sharpen his pen (obviously not write for him but teach / train) he could rise to the level we want him to be at

@@godsandmonstars lol so? There’s rappers that keep that old hip hop flame alive that have done better and achieved more at even younger ages than 24, Joey badass is a prime example, at 17 he gave a true solid east coast mixtape in 1999 and it’s regarded as one of the best mixtapes in general. Then at 22 he put out all amerikkkan badass which was his true breakthrough album that put him in the spot he’s in today. This whole “room for improvement” conversation with cordae gotta give something in the end, because George is right, cordae been here for a solid number of years and hasn’t really given much substance outside of flow and rhymes
@hortonwho2112 жыл бұрын
@@godsandmonstars So he’s actually older than Dave, but he’s still getting a pass? Age isn’t relevant to lyricism outside of the additional context provided by experience. It doesn’t mean you can’t have bars. I’ve only heard a couple tracks from Cordae but I don’t hear anything special other than good feel for flow.
@SaintMu2 жыл бұрын
I see what you mean, and I agree. I think it all comes down to life experience, man... To me Cordae sounds like a dude who absolutely is a student of the craft, in terms of technique and style he's polished, but he's just lacking in the department of subject matter. Different people mature in different ways, in their own timing. Cordae feels like if he goes out and do some living, in the later part of his career he might become a Cole or something - if that makes sense?

Logic has a whole different flow tho. Like a smooth machine gun, so yes he uses lots of filler, but I guess it's less obvious. Cordae is trying to embody a rappers rapper. Like he wants to deliver bars and content. In that regard, I understand their critique of him.
