Jen harvesting poplar bark and processing into cordage.
We don't let resources go to waste if we can help it and this downed poplar tree was no exception with the help of a glut and hatchet.
If you need help identifying tress, you can't go wrong with an Audubon Guides amzn.to/2Izlin5

I imagine if those fibers were combed and carded like with nettle or flax you could spin thread or yarn from it as well. I just came over from the Townsends video you were in. 😊 yup, I subbed to you. Good stuff here.

No easy way to make cordage, but you certainly made it look easy. Were those spring peepers I heard in the background?

Wonderful, thank you! Are there other strong materials you can use instead of poplar bark? We don't have access to any poplars around here!

I was thinking of building a 18th century style cabin, do you think bark would make good shingles?

katanatac yes , look up Townsend’s Barn building video. We were a large part of that and we used bark.

Great video thanks. Do you find that the cordage shrinks as it ages and becomes less green?
@RamshackleHomesteadKeithandJen
@RamshackleHomesteadKeithandJen 5 жыл бұрын
Aaron's Life it will shrink somewhat as moisture leaves.

@@RamshackleHomesteadKeithandJen I have seen a video where the cordage is boiled with crushed charcoal for a bit. Apparently, it prevents the shrinkage and makes it a bit more flexible. Have you ever tried it before?
