Sorry about the abrupt start (the video editor wouldn't let me combine it with the last video). Also apologies for the abrupt ending!

Thanks for doing these, great info. Mine is 2 years old now and I decided not to give her a second shave and persist with developing cords onto a coat that still had a bit of puppy fluff. The coat has about 15 months growth and the puppy coat kind of stripped out when I started parting the matts into cords. What do you do with their tummy and legs? Mine constantly develops matts on her legs and I decided to have her tummy and lower chest shaved to keep her cool (its summer here now) and to keep her clean.

As long as you aren't planning to put your dog in the show ring, there's no problem with shaving. I do exactly what it sounds like you're doing to the legs and tummy. I'm just about to post a video dealing with that as my boy is just starting to actually a start the cording process.

It’s absolutely essential to use dog-safe and approved shampoo. Garnier is not cruelty free, nor is the knock-off Sally’s Beauty Supply shampoo. They both pay to have their ingredients tested on animals without regard to the consequences - burned skin, hair loss, infections, and, worst of all, pain. Such unnecessary pain. Grooming is expensive, but dogs are worth doing it safely.

I wouldn't put anything on my dog that I wouldn't use myself. Pet shampoos aren't subjected to any regulatory body, unlike human beauty cosmetics (including shampoo and conditioner). I do agree that the ethics of a company are important when choosing products.

@@slightlymadhatterMaking sure that it’s safe for use on yourself, and appreciated. I’m positive that you wouldn’t ever knowingly put your dog(s) through any kind of pain, especially with the amount of time and dedication that you show to them and their coats (seriously, as a groomer it’s always sincerely appreciated to see someone genuinely take care of a Water Dog coat). I really appreciate you making this series as I just had a client get a Water Dog puppy, a client that struggles to maintain the coat of their first dog, a sheep-a-doodle. The last time I had that guy in he was on my table for FIVE HOURS trying to get the matting out. I’m very excited to show them what you’ve provided so that they will HOPEFULLY take their Water Dogs coat seriously and give it the care it requires to achieve the Water Dog look that they want.
