I have the 9950x and it takes a decent amount of work to make it run somewhat right. It's almost like a binned version of the 7950x in some ways but it's limitation is the U-Clock (Memory Controller clock). If AMD puts a V-Cache die on both CCD's of the 9950x3d, I'm getting one, because this helps work around the ineffective U-Clock. The 9800x3d exceeds expectations and it even beats the 9700x in workstation programs. The 9800x3d is one of the best CPU's I've seen launched in the last 15 years..... next to Zen 3 and Sandy Bridge. However, my 9950x does not consume this much power while I play games. I'm doing less that 100w according to Rivatuner

What makes you think that Core Ultra 9 is NOT a productivity CPU, especially when it beats 9950x in all (except 7-zip extract) productivity benchmarks. Yeah they cost the same, what is the problem with that? You bash intel because you expect them to top every chart.

@RedEnergySounds The difference is that Ryzen 9 and specifically Zen 5 Ryzen 9 is trimmed for productivity and for productivity only. The Core Ultra is still a valid CPU for gaming, but I'd argue that it would be a waste of money in this case. This video in itself is targeted to no one anyway. If you do productivity tasks on your PC, you likely have at least a 1440p monitor, so the CPU gaming performance is already out of the question. During productivity tasks they basically do suck up the same power and in the end it depends on what you're using. Like, if you're using blender or Photoshop the R9 has the edge while the Ultra 9 is better in Code Compiling (at least for Chromium) and Adobe Premiere.

Looks like AMD just barely edges out the Intel in FPS (appx. 2% FPS gain in favor of AMD) in some games, but Intel is using 30%-40% less power and runs much cooler than the AMD. A few of the games the Intel beat the AMD in FPS, while maintaining the lower power and temperatures. Impressive.

This guy is the only one to get these numbers on core ultra 9. I would not put too much stock into these benchmarks. Every other KZbinr has recorded very different numbers with the core 9 and 9950. Plus, it’s already been shown that you have to test the wattage from the PSU component cables on a test bench to see the actual numbers. Power usage is actually higher. Gamer nexus, level up tech, kit guru, and hardware unboxed are non bias and thorough in their assessments and discoveries.

Actually, I want to see the real race between 285K and 9950X. You need to crank up the RAM frequency on 285K rig while lower the latency on 9950X rig. Also, when doing gaming tests, you can also disable all E-cores for 285K and disable 1 CCD for 9950X.

@@lir4e Because generally games can only utilize 4-8 cores, other cores are just adding power consumption, heat and can lower the frequency and create latency. Also, even for work like content creation, there are tons of tasks that utilize 4-8 cores like games for instance animating HD characters, making cloth sim, flip liquid sim, creating procedural contents. And I strongly believe that some of the tasks I mentioned above can only use 1 or 2 cores. By disabling cores, you will see performance gain in those tasks.

I was reading some comments and I am shocked how toxic the hardware community and gaming community got... Me as a consumer want the best product for the price to performance ratio. Most of the games carried by the X3D-CPUs are in 1080p which (I hope) nobody with that kind of a budget will still play on. At 1440p and above we need stronger core clocks and good efficency and as far as I can tell from the video I might ditch the idea of going to the 9950X(3D).... I am using the CPU for gaming and workloads so I am not too fixated on 3XD and 1080p is, at least in my point of view, outdated.

Just one thing, you probably need to set the graphic settings to medium. The reason behind this is many graphic settings have low, med, high and ultra presets. Normally low preset can mean this option is off. Then both CPU and GPU will not calculate. But if you set them to high or ultra, the workload on CPU is just a little more, but GPU has to do a lot more and you just want to turn them on without giving GPU too much weight. This is why you should use medium presets. Though you are using a 4090, sometimes the GPU can still bottleneck the FPS earlier than CPU can do.

Overall intel's chiplet architecture seems a bit more stable. Only the 3d cache enables amd cpus to pull ahead in games. If you want the fastest/efficient workstation + gaming machine I'd probably pick 285K and tune fast tight ram with it. Edit: but I forgot there will be 9950x3d. If it's close to 9800x3d, then 285K will stop making sense

AMD managed to be on par with Apple and desperate Intel failed in fact they made the 11th gen less efficient than the older 10th gen and not as fast as both AMD and Apple. I owned a 12th gen Intel laptop in the past and it’s run super hot and uses so much battery despite having only a dedicated gpu while me current 8th gen mobile workstation with an Nvidia GPU is have slightly longer battery life. Would like to see 9800x3d vs 14900k or even 14700k with proper setup and fast ram, myself i have 14700kf with 7600mhz ram and i am straighup beating 7800x3d nearly everytime in my own testing (not only that i7 is far more stable regarding frametimes) i cannot fathom how much desinformation is on tech in general. For those who would speculate about power consumption, i am undervolted pulling in games 80-110w and temps being between 45-55c on 360 aio, and my system is faster for everything else and not only gaming

@ i completely understand, i just stated it here because on this channel from the guys testing he is comming close with 14th gen cpus to 7800x3d or even surpasing 7800x3d with overclocked 14700k and just 6000mhz ram, so he is probably setting the intel systems well regarding the voltages and stuff, while in mainstream techtubers testings even 5800x3d beats 14900k which is utter nonsense… by anymeans i dont want to disregard AMD cpus but i feel like the tech space is really disregarding raptor lake capabilities. also i understand that basic user wouldnt try to optimize anything in bios let alone overclock the ram etc… yeah intel is a bitch regarding the setup but once you know how to deal with it, ure golden…with no x3d dips…

I think these numbers are fake. The 9950x uses 113W and 285k uses 145W in cyberpunk (Hardware unboxed data). Similar with other games.

@A-BYTE64 they are actually efficient bcz they are using TSMC advance nodes and than AMD or equally advance nodes but they are very much efficient than AMD in laptops side. Watch geekerwan video friend you will know. In high load at more than 150watts AMD and intel both are same in terms of efficiency

CPUs are always best to be tested at 1080p in games, because at 1080p the demand is more on the CPU rather than the GPU with a lot of FPS that the CPU has to process and that makes it a reliable benchmark for CPUs, at 2K or especially 4K the GPU has to do most of the work and the CPU won't have much to do which makes benchmarking CPUs at those resolutions not as effective.
