Tekken has the most freedom out of all fighting games, and the whole trope about how women are more creative than men actually comes into play there. I don't know why "getting charmed" is considered sexist. I find "getting charmed" true for me, personally. Let's start with the things that I'm NOT saying: 1. A girl can't take me down by pure skill. 2. A girl HAS (or is actively trying) to charm me just to defeat me. Now with that out of the way, I do get distracted when battling against a pretty face. A girl's look is such a natural weapon that it creates an inherent advantage that calls me to get stronger with my focus. Sometimes that fails, sometimes that doesn't... regardless if I win or lose.

Just seeing this now (can't believe I didn't see it before 🙈). I'm so glad a video like this exists. I'm not a pro fighting game player but I would attend informal sessions now and then, and this has definitely been my experience. People are surprised when you're decent at the game but don't like to lose to you because of the "connotations" it has. This isn't just confined to fighting games but all genres, where people are constantly surprised when you're good at the game, no matter how much time you've put into it. It's like being proficient at games as a female is a novelty to people. I used to work in a video game store and people would constantly ask me if I just "worked there" or if I actually play games 🤦🏻♀️ People really need to alter their perception and leave their stereotypes behind.

This reminds me of the first fighting game tournament I ever watched, which I believe was Evo 2012? Or maybe 2013? I can't remember but I'll look it up again later. I was a particular child being from the east coast, but moving to the midwest it felt like I couldn't really fit in anywhere. Being in a family that thought it was weird I was nearing 13 years old and still being into what they referred to as cartoons but as you can probably guess was anime. I was weird though. I was the type of person so discouraged of losing that I would play fighting games in two player so I wouldn't have to lose. Two Best Friends Play actually got me into the genre the way I am today, but coming into my teenage years I honestly felt like there weren't any other people like me. I get on my KZbin after being bodied in Mortal Kombat 9 to actually learn some combos and I stumble upon that tournament in complete and total utter awe... The majority of the whole MK pro community at that time were black players. A few years later Rdcworld1 one appears and I find out how popular anime is in the black community and I went from feeling alone and uninspired to the contributor I am now

This is a perfect demonstration of why non-physical sports still need exclusively female spaces. I can totally see why women can feel isolated or intimidated in a male-dominated field, and they're just naturally more comfortable around other women. Any female ex-member of the Mormon church and the JW can tell you how debilitating it is to have to confide in a bunch of men who often are downright paternalistic, misogynistic and even predatory.

Yuyu-san already knows this, but she has been my idol forever. She made me want to go have fun at EVO despite not being good at the game. I've always loved fighting games and players like Yuyu, Tanukana, Mimii and more have made it easy for me to have fun at tournaments. Friends like these are definitely worth putting yourself out there. Even though Yuyu knows I'm no pro, she practiced Tekken with me for hours during dreamhack weekend. I've always wanted to be like Yuyu-san. Being on the same team as her, being able to learn from her, and now being able to call her my friend is really unbelievable to me. I genuinely love her as a person. I'm really blessed to know her. I'm excited for the days when I get to become friends with my other female idols. The women within esports are so INCREDIBLY strong.

I live in the Caribbean and i've been playing video games since i was 5 or 6 years old. Since where i live people are typically VERY mean and sexist, so of course I'd always be underestimated and sometimes people wont even give me a chance. You'd get comments like "of course a girl's gonna be playing a female character", "haha you lost to a girl" or "she only won cause she was pressing random buttons, she doesn't know what she's doing". I mean, I took this as motivation to learn more combos and get better so that I can prove them wrong.

Something I love about the FGC is that skill forces respect. It doesn't matter if you're black, white, asian, disabled, deaf, male, female. By winning you force people to respect you. It's a shame that there's such a sense of isolation, in a perfect world, Men and Women would be able to come together and leave aside their gender for the joy of fighting games, and I still think that world is possible. I hope the stigma that someone plays a fighting game (or any game in general) on a high level for anything other than personal ambition and enjoyment disappears!

As a girl who has been playing fighting games for awhile I certainly feel like I can’t really make friends or advance as I feel really left out. I can’t explain it but I feel really isolated as a female. I spend time practicing and hitting ranked mode a lot, but at events I have a really hard time getting sets with ppl. Most of the men won’t even play with me, and when they do they beat me get up and move on. Without saying a word. It can be disheartening but I’m determined to get better for myself.
@superarisu6 жыл бұрын
This is also my experience. It's as if men see me as offering nothing in the way of their growth as a player, so it's a waste of time to play me at all.

@wavechanstuff6 жыл бұрын
that's so sad to hear. I used to feel that way at events too but I was really fortunate to eventually find really nice players who just don't mind playing with everyone. I really think it depends on the game you play and the scene you have TBH. Hopefully someday the nice players will become standard for every scene!
@timesup946 жыл бұрын
Do you know this happens to men as well? At the only tournament I've been able to be at, the players that got the highest placings didn't even want to go a single match with me. They just keep playing each other for hours. And I asked multiple times for a match. At least you got a match, right?

@@thelastgogeta who cares about the extra earnings? the FM you get isn't that major and is not like they nerf the FM you normally get if you have ads off, so your argument isn't really valid.. plus you can't really use FM to gain advantage over your opponents (like said, buying boosters that give you more str or def etc) You have them on, you get lil bit extra (that is not even worth the hassle) You have it off, same as it always was... you gain same amount of FM you always had after a win. I hate ads, and I also believe is dumb and stupid what they did but we have the option to turn 'm off we all should do that to show 'm how lil we care about some small extra fm gain.
@thelastgogeta6 жыл бұрын
@@GatsuRage Every player who intends to spend fight money should care. I have heard that they didn't reduce the standard earnings right before ads but not only are they in the position to and have been changing how it works since launch basically, people shouldn't need to watch or see ads in a fully priced game for a bonus. It isn't acceptable even with a small gain for ad viewers and while we are on same page by wanting them off and thinking that's a good way to end a message, I think you may be letting them off a little easy. As long as they have fairly quiet dissent, increased DLC sales (ads do show DLC as well) and more engagement. They win. A bit like how a few whales can carry a mobile game.

I'm a big Super Turbo guy, and one of my all time favorite players is KillerMiller (E Honda player). 2018 Canada Cup she is pitted against the god of E Honda, Kusumondo, a Japanese legend so talented he changed how the matchups against other characters was played. He was HIGHLY favored to win, and Killer Miller wiped the floor with him, only losing a single round. Japanese players come and take our lunch money, and usually it's only a few players who can actually compete with them. It was such a proud moment for the entire NA scene. kzbin.info/www/bejne/hJKvk4tspdSEd7c
