When ppl ask why someone didn’t leave an abusive relationship it’s really uneducated. Leaving is the most dangerous time and as the man mentioned, you’ve been groomed which includes being cutoff from anyone who could help you. My mom was in an abusive marriage for 10 years which, like Cassie, started when she was a teenager. When we left the first time, the church helped but they ended up telling my dad where we had went because after all it was “his wife.” They almost got us killed. So she had no one she could trust. I was 7 when we finally left and it took law enforcement working with a crisis shelter and only 2 family members knew. They drove us to a parking lot where the shelter workers picked us up because no one could know the address of the safe house. After a while we were helped to move to another state but we were scared he’d show up somehow for about 3 years. And my father was just a run of the mill criminal, he was no P Diddy. Cassie must have been in a fcking prison and my heart is with HER. I remember a time my mom had tried to just separate and stay at my aunts house and someone called and said my dad was on his way and I was about 5 at the time and I still remember how terrified my mom was telling me to pack my bag and get in the car and we had no idea where to go. A victim is fully aware when their abuser is capable of killing them. Please don’t minimize it by saying why don’t you just leave.
