The reason why this song hits him so hard is because his best friend and fellow band mate Paul helped him write this song. He kept coming over to make sure Corey was ok after a rough break up. Weeks after they recorded the song Paul passed.

This one has a dual meaning for Corey now. Originally the song was written about a relationship. Corey didn't really write things for Slipknot, but when Paul Gray the bassist heard it, he basically championed for it to be finished and released as a Slipknot track. Paul passed away in 2010 from an overdose of morphine and fentanyl. So for Corey, it's not just about lost love, but also the loss of one of his close friend.

Im 25 and ive never been in a relationship but it sounds like a painful situation that happens when things dont work out. The unfortunate thing that usually happens to me is that i feel emotions for someone and then i find out that they're already in a relationship and its happened on multiple occasions. But ive put a pause on that and for a couple of years im on a journey of self betterment and i want to keep it going now all i have to do is believe in myself.

Many see to underestimate the reach of this song… the writing is so genius that it’s not a unidirectional love song… Point in case: I dedicate and have sung this song to (to my self) to my Oldest daughter.. we have an estranged relationship.. and while many of the lyrics seem to be romantic.. they directly apply to love and the pain and BS that is love.. this song is our relationship… and she’s gone again… so here I am..

I think the part that resonated or gets me the most is when he talks about there being an empty space where his heart was. And that you cant hurt whats already dead. Im paraphrasing but i feel like mines been crushed so hard and so long ago through childhood I feel that line like nobody's business. A hard place to recover from. Not sure i will but it helps to know your not alone and everyone deals with grief.

This is one of those songs that some days I just have to skip when it comes up on a playlist coz I will just end up in bits - not a good look on the 8:20 train to work 😢 We have a saying here in Glasgow - what’s for you will not go by you - in other words, if it’s meant to be it’ll be. I think this song is that saying put to music. On the acoustic thing - I think it’s just naturally a much more intimate feeling when you have just the performer and their instrument and not the whole band, and for songs like this, that’s where it really works. Keep up the great work, much love from Scotland 🏴

@@SlashleySlays I hope you have checked out there newer album Death By Rock And Roll. Actually I kinda hope you haven't so maybe we can get some reactions on it. The whole thing is a 100. Imo there best yet and that's saying something with the previous ones. It's there first album after Chris Cornell and there producer/friend Kato died. So its written from a different mind set I would say, with Taylor dealing with deep depression and substance use. It starts out with so pretty dark stuff and by the end of it it takes on a lighter free feeling. The way that music can make things feel more livable. It is one of the best copping tools there is for sure.

I lived in Portland OR years ago when Slipnot came out and got backstage passes for my friends to Slipnot, Mudvayne, and Ramstien. I worked for a record label I won't name but when we hung out after the show back stage people were hanging out partying and I said to a group that I didn't understand why Slipnot didn't get air time on MTV or metal shows and the guy next to me started talking BIG shit about how his band had spent time and a lot of cash to produce videos that only got play once a week at 3AM on these networks. That guy was Cory Taylor and Joey came to drink with us soon after. We partied so hard that the band was black listed from the venue 🤣Roseland Theatre Portland OR . True Story

I met a guy today who told me that after his break up of a five year relationship, it took him six months to listen to this song again. I am currently on week two of my 23 year-long relationship's breakup. I got a long way to go but after everything she did and said; as of right now, if she asked me to take her back it would be an emphatic YES! before the words finish leaving her lips. It can be painful but I love how cathartic metal music can be. I feel his pain, and he shares mine, as do so many of my metal brethren. 🤘🏻I'm slowly exploring the idea of letting her go and I think it hurts even more now than it did before. 🖤 Been listening to this song almost non-stop when I need a good, ugly, cry.
