That '61 Casino is one of the most beautiful, best-sounding instruments you can look at and listen to on YT, always wonderfully played by Mr. Congilio! I warmly recommend going over to his "Casino" video because he demonstrates that you don't need to break the bank to get that magic… And the last solo on the SG is killer: perfect arc, perfect thematic cohesion and hooks, … I'm off to transcribe it! A great player is necessary to display what a guitar is capable of.Just the opposite than many youtube channels from mediocre players and human being only capable of disassembling guitars for no reason and reccomending tons of gear to hide what is evident: a guitar is a musical instrument build to excell in the hands of a competent musicians.Gear is not the shortcut but knowledge and years of thinking and practise.

I've had this cheap 70's Japanese Les Paul copy for years with a visually stunning look, but not much happening in the tone department; until I installed Seymour Duncan Phat Cats, which are their PAF-sized P90s. It's now my favorite guitar! P90s are so versatile, and they really rock!

The string pull thing was debunked as a pseudoscientific claim because the magnetic pull isn’t strong enough to audibly effect vibration. They’d have to be super close to the point that that pull hits the pull to contact curve. I think Rhett has a video about that. There’s something there, but it might be the psychological phenomenon of minimalism processing the harmonic points that fall within the pickups range so we’re more conscious of the instrument.
@VonBluesman2 жыл бұрын
Corey glad you got your Casino when you did, the prices have gone through the roof lately on everything vintage. I love the SG. I believe in one pickup theory too about the way the strings ring out. Great video. Thanks. 👍😎✌️

I bought a Music Man Albert Lee (basically a strat) with 3 P-90s on clearance a few years back, not knowing if I'd bond with it. I've always liked humbuckers, and strats always sounded a little thin in my hands. Albert is now one of my favorites. The P-90s add some nice frequencies, but there's still that quacky thing happening in the 2 & 4 positions. Totally cool! Turns out I was just playing the wrong kinds of strats!

Wish I had a guitar with a P90 in it. 😢 The Epiphone's sounded good, I liked the Yamaha's, loved the PRS's, and the Gibson SG's was just "Wow!" Regarding single pickups sounding better, as far as I know, the way guitars are typically wired means that all the pickups in the guitar remain "on" electrically to some extent even when they are turned off/deselected mechanically. This means multiple signal sources are being combined to some extent, and that reduces the quality of the main pickup that's "on." Magnetic pull on the strings is a less likely cause of signal degradation. As a consequence, I agree single pickup guitars tend to sound better - No phasing or boosting frequencies caused by other pickups. I found this information on the Dylan Talk's Tone Channel. And you can easily test it yourself by selecting one of the pickups in a multiple pickup guitar, and tap on a pole piece of one of the de-selected pickups with a small piece of metal (tip of a paper clip works). Most of the guitars used on the Sonic Drive Studio Channel have a single pickup, and they sound great.

In my opinion this is the best comparison video with the most relevant, real life good playing. It's huge help. I get why many people demo pickups super dry and flat on the amp but to me that has no life or dynamics. Its not musical. I'd love to see something covering P90 sounds from the history of punk music too. But this has made me move much closer to a decision to try P90's in something like a Sire L7V.
