You are so welcome! It's something that doesn't translate as well in written instructions but can be explained in a video so much more easily. It's not an extra step that I always take but in a setting like this when we have so many of them (and because we are sewing the two darks in our QSTs together rather than a dark against a light), it really makes a difference.

You show all the tiny details that truly make a difference. Your my favorite fabric designer and have been for years - and it makes it so neat to see how your mind works and how you construct your blocks. Agree with another commenter on your iron - appears to do a nice job - love that you show this and that it’s not a super high dollar iron also 👍. Thanks for sharing your talent and knowledge. Much appreciated 😘

Thank you Brenda!...I've really been enjoying sharing more videos. And, I love that iron!...I use my irons a lot and have had many over the years...expensive name-brands and not so expensive. A number of years ago, a quilt shop owner had recommended this brand after I mentioned that my current, $100+ iron wasn't working as it should have been. I was so glad for that recommendation as this iron is wonderful! (and inexpensive!)

@CorianderQuilts2 жыл бұрын
Do you mean, instead of drawing the double line as I did? If that's what you're asking, then yes!...you can just draw the one diagonal line and then sew 1/4" on either side of the drawn line. @CorianderQuilts2 жыл бұрын
@@lindaloostrom7025 I really like a good steam when I am pressing my blocks. I don't get as crisp of a press without the steam. But, there would be other quilters that prefer a dry iron. And sometimes, irons don't have a good steam and then quilters will spray their blocks with water and then press with a dry iron. And we could talk about starch or no starch and whether we starch before cutting our fabrics, or only when pressing the blocks, or a combination of the two...or none at all. There are a lot of different variables when it comes to how we each press. It's a little bit of trial & error and finding out how you like to press that gains you the best results.
@lindaloostrom70252 жыл бұрын
@@CorianderQuilts thank you for your kindness in a response that I will try!! I have an Oliso iron. I will try the combinations that you suggested. You have such beautiful quilts, fabrics and patterns. I value your thoughts and will work on my pressing techniques

1. I was so worried that you were not going to spin the seams. 2. thank you for not pressing open. 3. Do you also spin 4-patches? I made a checkerboard and lost track of my piecing - I ended up with clockwise & counter clockwise units. I still made the top, but I was not able to maintain the spinning once I started to make 16 patch blocks with my 4-patches.
@CorianderQuilts2 жыл бұрын
I am with you on pressing open and will only do it when it's really necessary (sometimes it is!). I can be so much more accurate when those seams nest! I haven't spun a 4 patch before....usually when I am making a checkerboard type design rather than individual 4 patches, I have strip pieced everything and would be sewing together in rows rather than in patches if that makes sense. I would have to think through how the pressing would work as you start sewing the patches together into the larger squares...it's easier for me to see how things will fit together either by actually piecing and laying things out or by doing it digitally in a design program. My mind doesn't work through it as well on it's own LOL! =)

I really appreciate the tip. Never would have guessed this simple fix. Wanted to ask why you didn't use the no waste flying geese method as you are making a "ton" from the same 2 fabrics? I find it faster, less wasteful and more accurate because all bias edges are stitched before cutting.

Spinning the centre really makes that area lie so much flatter. The only difference I make is that I hold that seam in both hands and just "twist" and they usually pop open easily Then I finger press before pressing. Same end result though and that's what really matters . Thank you though for the A and B explanation as nesting the seams when joining them is something I was puzzling about. I've seen this too Jyl--I think it probably works just fine but I know what you mean! My grandma used to clip her seams every now and then if her seams weren't nesting as she wanted them to. I haven't decided yet...I don't have it all together yet. Usually I decide after it's all together and I can really see how it's all come together.

Not really!...we use quarter square triangles/hourglass blocks frequently in quilt making.
