@@eibhlinnichrualoai You know, I don't even know if it had a name. It was just a shack where some guy used to sell the trendy 'Madchester' type of rave clothing and some Hip Hop style stuff. There's a fair chance we could have brushed shoulders on Paul's St lol. All good over here, hope all's well in London town!

Last part of my research Queen Elizabeth visited English market in 2012, prince Charles visited too in year 2018 . In years 2016, 2018 English market used as location for film the young offenders , subsequent tv series of same name . In general cork main industry is chemical . Portugal is world leading producer of natural cork . Cork is much more expensive compared with alternatives because can be harvested once a year by skilled farmers . Thank you for giving us chance to read learn new information improve our English as none native speakers. Good luck to you your dearest ones .

Cork people fought hard and firm against the brutal British invasion of Ireland yet it did not change the name of this famous marketplace, it should their broad mindedness and understanding, they only found for the freedom of Ireland and its people, The late British queen Elizabeth and her husband Prince Philip enjoyed the greatest time and had the best fun when they last visited Ireland, they were decent people who tried and succeeded in making things for both sides, many hard battles were fought and good changes were made , we no longer look on each other as the enemy but as very best friends, the fact is that the Irish and British people could be called 1st cousins, as the very great John Lynnon write and sung War is over. By the way all the fab 4 , The Beetles were all of Irish stock

My dad is an Irish Catholic, and my mum is Gaelic-speaking Scottish from the Isle of Skye. I honestly do not understand the Irish view of history at all. The English did very little to the Irish compared to the Vikings/Normans. During which period did the British invasion you mentioned take place? Between 600 and 1100, the Vikings settled in Ireland and also established control over parts of northern France, known as Normandy. In 1066, England faced invasions from both Norway and Normandy. While the English successfully repelled the Norse invaders, the Normans, under the leadership of William the Conqueror, achieved victory and conquered England. Subsequently, William initiated a campaign known as the 'harrying of the north,' resulting in the devastating loss of life for approximately 75% of the population in northern England. Following the Norman conquest, English was suppressed, and French became the dominant language in courts and parliament, while Latin continued to be used in religious contexts. However, by the 1100s, the King of Leinster in Ireland encountered difficulties and the threat of deposition. Seeking assistance, he approached the Normans and proposed the creation of the Lordship of Ireland in exchange for their aid in resolving his civil problems. Consequently, from 1100 to 1500, the Lordship of Ireland became part of the Norman conquests. During the 1500s, English identity began to strengthen, and linguistic changes took place. William Spear played a significant role in the restoration of the English language in written form after a hiatus of 500 years, introducing approximately 1,700 new words. Concurrently, English populations in England rebelled against the influence of the Catholic Norman Church. From the 1500s to the 1700s, England faced continuous religious conflicts, with Catholic Spain and France posing significant threats to the Protestant English. The period from the 1700s witnessed the ultimate victory of Protestant English forces in the civil war against Catholic English factions. As a consequence, Catholics were prohibited from owning land within the Pale, leading them to migrate beyond its boundaries and acquire Gaelic-speaking territories. In Gaelic culture, family land was traditionally divided equally among the children. With high birth rates and a decline in child mortality rates during the 1700s, the Gaelic population experienced rapid growth. However, the prevalence of diseases resulted in high adult mortality rates, leading to constant divisions of Gaelic lands and subsequent family disputes. This, combined with the fragmentation of croft sizes and the acquisition of land by Catholics outside the scope of English law, played a direct role in exacerbating the conditions that led to the Irish famine

@@HaiLsKuNkY There's still people alive who knew people who fought in the war of independence. Basically, it's time. 100 years is nothing. I hope that helps you understand.

Lennon also wrote Luck of the Irish where he sang how the "land of beauty and wonder" "was r**ed by the British brigands. I have nothing against the English. Just saying...

@@HaiLsKuNkY The problem wasn’t that the English were in charge, it was that they looked down on the Irish as lesser than. They controlled all the land and made the whole population pay rent for small holdings that produced little, and the rent was paid to absentee landlords that had no understanding or care for their plight. If the English ruled fairly and didn’t make the Irish second class citizens on what they perceived to be their own land, I honestly don’t think it would have been a big deal. My understanding of the Viking is that obviously they were vicious raiders, but they started to stay and winter in Ireland rather that just raid and were quick to integrate with the locals.
