If only the Corkscrew was a listed ride at Alton Towers, then the ride would still be there and running. But I understand Alton Towers' reasonings for removing the Corkscrew, ie; the ride becoming very rough towards it's end of life, reports from people about the ride being increasingly uncomfortable to ride on due to its age and it's declining popularity from 2005. Then it suddenly gets popular again on the 9th November 2008 on it's very last running day and it's farewell party event as people take one last ride on the Corkscrew before it gets taken down.

its very sad that it went but the type of manufacture meant it couldnt stay forever look at the framework and supports it is steel but not safe enough after a as it wasnt built to last

I went on it in 1984 and found it uncomfortable to ride. I preferred the Looping Star at Margate.

Amazing how some places still have wooden coasters that run daily but this wasnt good enough for A.T anymore. Suppose the corkscrew went to the same scrap heap as the American adventure rides (cr4p place that was BTW)

Because it has a single inversion. Yes, it goes upside down twice, but the circuit only has one inversion, a vertical loop. What you're saying is like saying X2 has the most inversions on any coaster in the world.

The new ride taking its place will be called Thi13teen, and and supposed to be the most terrifying rollercoaster in the world, and to ride it you have to be over 16under 55, you have to be in good physical and emotional condition and also have to sign a waiver so you cant sue them if you get scared

Sarah Lynch Agreed! It's absolute pice of S***! an insult to roller coasters everywhere. This is a perfect example of a roller coaster being replaced with a gimmick load of garage with no substance to it. While I was not a big fan of corky at least at was a built to be a real coaster and not what ever the hell th13een is.

+lucky 13 I don't care if it's the only one of it's kind! As a coaster I find it to be absalotly crap! A rollercoaster should be judge on how good it ride's like how good the layout is and speed/air time ect ect. Gimmicks don't make a good ride, it's how you do those elaments ubove are done.

Doug Briglmen its not gimmick its original desigh and it is a very good ride as it has over 4 gs and the air time on the first drop is 6.79 so its a very good ride to replace corky beacause the theming is very good and links with hex and the chained with the legend of the towers,
