I started to smoke regular briar pipes. I love the way it looks. 15 months ago I enter to the heaven: I bought a Savinelli Roma! However, I start to see Corn Cob pipes. Weird. I live in México and as you know, our lives are all around corn. But, also a pipe? I thought it was a fragile material. However, I ask for a second grab to Mwessouri Meerschaum. Heaven comes to my world! Since that day, I stopped to use my briar pipes. Absolutely love my Country Gentleman, also my Marcus pipe. I use a bike, I don't own a car. I feel like a poor and also happy man. So, corn cob pipes are just like me! Thank you guy for make this video. Best from Mexico!

Thanks for the shout-out Muttnchop Piper, and I'm glad you took another stab at this topic. Cobs have been my favorite pipe material for 35+ years and I love it when people see past their "hillbilly" reputation and get to experience the simple smoking pleasure that cobs consistently deliver. This video is an excellent addition to your series.

This video was created to replace 2 other videos. As many of you may know I am a perfectionist, you can just watch my videos to figure that out. I didn't feel the 2 Corn Cob videos prior to this one were high enough standards for my channel and our club. The first video was, and please forgive the wording done half assed, it was rushed, and full of inaccuracies, so, I created the second video to correct some of those inaccuracies, but I have come to realize that it was merely a band aid. Some comments were a little harsh, so much so that I was afraid that a new, or perspective new pipe smoker would read them and decide that our club was not for them. My goal as it has been since I started this channel is to provide information that makes it easier to learn how to smoke a pipe, I felt that the other 2 videos did not live up to this goal. I was not coerced, or forced, or convinced to remake this video, I felt it needed to be remade to coincide with the high standards I have set for my channel and our club. I hope everyone understands, and supports my decision. 👍👍👍

As a child, my grandfather smoked pipes. I picked up smoking cigarettes regrettably and decided to switch to something that would be easier on me. Otherwise known as better moderation of my smoking and what i smoke. Pipe smoking really helped with that since I feel its easier to regulate, and it helps me get a little closer to my grandfather who has since passed on. Hope to learn lots from this channel.

Just wanted to share something I learned about corn cob pipe repair. I love corn cobs as they seem to be some of the best in which to smoke aromatic tobaccos. However, sometimes I notice that despite the great workmanship, the bit will eventually loosen and be unstable while smoking them. Some online have suggested different glues, but I am wary of that because I don't want to inhale fumes that may occur with heat. I have had success with melted beeswax as a glue. It's surprisingly strong and doesn't melt when smoking, but not so strong that it can't be disassembled for cleaning of the stem and bit, and then it can be easily put back together again. It's also a natural substance that in doesn't off gas on it's own or when heated and doesn't ruin any surface of the pipe assembly. I tried this on a MM Short Stop and a MM Dwarf Cobbit it worked great.

I didn't see the need to replace the other two videos, but I understand your reasoning to do so. I smoke more cobs than anything else, during the coarse of a week. It's as simple as being able to throw them anywhere, my car, my desk at work or doing yard work. I have some expensive briars, that I would never throw in a glove box. Utility would be the best description for a cob pipe. For me, a briar is for sitting down and just having a relaxing smoke. This remake was first class and very informative and unbiased. Well done my friend. Third time is the charm. Cheers!

First pipe(s) were corn cobs. Got the corn, made them myself and used bamboo reeds for the stems. If you smoked them a little hot, you'd get the corn flavor. Just a fun DIY experiment.

Muttnchop I am fairly new to pipe smoking ( approx 2 months ) and have watched lots of KZbin videos in that time, probably 200 plus videos and I can say without a doubt I have learned more from your videos than any others. Don't get me wrong the other YTPC presenters / video makers are awesome, educational, entertaining and I like watching their videos for those reasons but none I have found are more interested in helping new and old to the community of pipe smoking learn about the common 'interest' as you do. I like all that post in the YTPC because more than anything they are brothers (and some sisters) that have a common interest and in posting videos they share a small piece of their lives, a glimpse into their world through the common bond of pipe smoking. What a great community. Take care, keep sharing your knowledge it really helps and last but not least "keep on choochin" as one or more members of the community calls it!! Yours in solidarity CanadianPiper604.

Chris, I turned around from my monitor to count my pipes and I have 59 briars, a meerschaum, two calabashes and 14 corn cobs. The pipes run from starter pipes to Comoys, GBD's freehands, multiple Savinelli's and 4 Autographs. And, considering freehands, four of my cobs are the Freehands that are made by Missouri Meerschaum, the most expensive cobs made (except for some new custom models). This isn't meant to show off, it's meant to show that all pipes have their place (Oh, yeah, I forgot my two hookas) and uses. And even a pipe smoker of 40 plus years still uses and enjoys cobs. I use my cobs when I smoke virginia/perique blends, since most cobs have a smaller inner diameter bowl than other pipes and, as you stated, they smoke a little cooler. I also love them when I travel and fish since it's a lot less painful to replace a $12 cob than a $50 decent briar. I also would encourage anyone interested to definitely check out Aristocob's videos AND his web site, he's one of the friendliest guys in the business.

The car analogy was a nice one to express the reasoning you have for starting with a briar. Smoking briar properly really does familiarize the smoker with the mechanics and practice of pipe smoking in a way that isn't really as apparent or even necessary with corn cob pipes. I started with a cob myself, but didn't fully appreciate them until years of smoking briars, clays and meers. Cobs have many advantages, but a little comparison and perspective will always improve the smoking experience.

Not claiming to be an expert either, but I would say out of the three videos you've made on this topic, this is the best one! I currently 4 corn cob pipes (2 of which I don't smoke anymore because the shanks are broken on them), in addition to about two-dozen pipes, most of which are made out of briar, but I do have a couple of hardwoods and meerschaums. Out of all of the pipes that I own, my corn cobs are the best bang for the buck; they keep up with the more expensive pipes, and yet the most expensive corn cob I own costs $10. Keep up the great videos man!

I started on a corn cob and have since acquired a couple of older briar estate pipes. I have a Dorchester and an old Mckenzie pipe. My cob and hardwood pipes are from Missouri Meerschaum. I prefer the cob pipes.

Good video as always. My favorites are Country Gent and Rob Roy. As I wrote before certain Burley Blends are delicious in a cob. For the newbies seconds are good choice, big companies like Savinelli,Stanwell have good seconds and they're cheap. I've a Savinelli second from 60¨s (Cadet)and it's still a good smoker. If you think that draw is too hard in cob put a 6 mm Balsa filter in stem, it should give some resistance. Have a great weekend an d as always cool smokes, mate

New to the hobby. Corn cobs have been great so far. Easy to use. paper towel not removing much of the cake inside. pipe reamer seems scraping the wall too hard

I always have a few Missouri Meerschaum pipes on hand. I prefer the Washington, because it sits on a flat surface without tipping.

I smoke corn cobs exclusively. I buy the smokable seconds whenever I can, but they've been not available for a while. So I've been buying stems and making my own cobs since 2020. I like not having to worry about a pipe. toss it and make a new one.

Hey Muttnchop Piper. I really enjoy your pipe videos; so much so that this is the first and only video series that I've ever subscribed to. I feel a little rude making a request with my first comment, but I would love to see a video where you give us a general breakdown of lakelands. I am fairly new to pipe smoking and would like to know some basics about lakeland-style tobaccos. Thanks.

Great informative video. The only thing I would add,is that someone new to the hobby might consider a estate pipe, perhaps from eBay, over a basket pipe as you would get more bang for the buck and it would already be broken in.
@MuttnchopPiper7 жыл бұрын
janovsk1 - well, let’s look at this, someone who is new to the hobby has no idea what to look for when purchasing a new pipe. eBay is a fine place to purchase pipes, but let’s suppose a new pipe smoker goes to eBay how do they know the pipe they are purchasing is a quality pipe? They don’t because they don’t know what a quality pipe is, so they go to eBay, purchase a pipe, get it, and start smoking it, next thing you know the outside of the pipe starts to bubble and peel, so they have spent anywhere from $25.00 to $50.00 for that pipe, the purchaser goes through the dispute phase of trying to get their money back, but the seller can claim that it was a quality pipe, the purchaser didn’t know how to correctly smoke a pipe, and they may be right. Like I said eBay is a great place to purchase estate and new pipes for knowledgeable and seasoned pipe smokers, not for new pipe smokers because they don’t know what to look for in an estate or new pipe. 👍👍👍

The corn cob pipes in my local smoke shops were about 4-5 inches long. And the cob itself was a little thicker than the stem on your corn cob pipes. It had about the same diameter as your thumb.

Thanks for the corrections and clarification. Although the first video was fine man. I can say for 90% of the folks that have purchased dagner corn cobs did so because it's his personal version of it period without understanding the upgrades done to it so for you being slightly ignorant on the modifications should not have gotten Jasons panties in bunch especially seeing how not only did you purchase the pipe but you didn't even mention the name of the person creating it. So I wouldn't worry about it. However with this being an educational channel in the pc a little bit more hw should be invested just because your not the average rant/entertainment channel. But I still watch and enjoy the vids keep it up. This is just my opinion

bozzman 233 - and a great opinion it is, I agree, but smoking corn cobs is a passion for a lot of folks, plus it was...the first video was hastily done, and not up to my standards, the second one was to try and patch the holes in the Dam, but it still leaked, realized I just needed to delete both videos and start over, I think I made the right decision. 👍👍👍
