when I was a young man, I helped on a local farm. They had one silo and chopped corn too. On the bottom of the silo was a valve, it was used to drain the liquid from the silo. You fellows have come a long way in farming.

Another great video with excellent content as always. You are so blessed to have those reliable custom harvesting and manure hauling crews in your neighborhood. I can see how hiring out these services saves you time and money. Not to mention how this system also reduces your stress. Looks like you’re getting close to firing up the Lely system. I hope it all comes together for you. I am interested to see how the feed quality turns out for the Triticale and Corn Silage. And how they will compare for TDN. Thanks again! And have a happy and blessed weekend!

Only caveat: someone has to climb on a very regular basis. I only dealt with 65' and less, but it gets tiresome, especially as the unloaders wear. Not much fun hoisting a 10hp electric motor up a chute. And a 24' wants that 10hp motor. I wish him well.

You should get a rubber broom attachment that goes on a weed eater to even out your silage. And you could use that to sweep snow off of the Lely feeder paths.

How’s the house watching TV aerial view of the silos, I was wondering if you’d thought about putting a cat walk between the silos, so you could climb up one silo and go check another silo if you needed to? Also, I think it would be good to have a set of pitchforks, including 90° angle pitch forks, stored at the top of your silos on the outside or the inside! That way you wouldn’t need to drag forks to the top of the silo each time you need them. Also, a pulley with a quarter inch rope in the shoot would help you take things up to the top of the silo calm, like the plastic tarp he put over the top.
@classicalmidiorgans3 ай бұрын
A bunch of splendid ideas. Definitely like the 🐈 walk idea ..
@MorganOtt-ne1qj3 ай бұрын
The cat walk is a neat idea, but I don't think all 3 silo's will be filled at the same time every time. And you still have to climb em.
@TheBiggRiggz3 ай бұрын
Two questions; 1- are there plans to pour concrete slabs where the blower parks at each silo so that you don't have to keep dragging that tarp? The tarp is definitely the cheaper option obviously. 2- when you cover the chaff, does it have to be plastic? Thinking you could get vision covers made either from canvas or vinyl that you could roll up and attach to the silo feeder/distributor when not in use. Like where I think you should have your pitchfork and shovels stored so you don't have to keep packing those up & down the ladders. Looks like a great harvest year so far though yeah?

New to all this is it safe to walk on the silage to cover it .
@kimcwhite65093 ай бұрын
I'm an observer, but yes it's safe to walk on. You'll notice that the blower fan was on while they did it. When it starts to ferment it gives off a toxic gas so it has to be done right away & left alone for awhile. That's a general observation. I hope that helps❤️
@MorganOtt-ne1qj3 ай бұрын
Correct observation. Though it's not packed tight, it doesn't have any hollow spots. And silo gas is an issue, especially in dry years. Keeping the blower running is a +, and so is opening the lowest door you can to let the gas escape down the chute.
