Is shortening lard please , surprised it’s not equal amounts of both , u learn something new every day as they say , thanks 😊
@BackyardChef10 ай бұрын
Yes, shortening is a type of fat used in cooking and baking, similar to lard. However, shortening is typically made from vegetable oils, whereas lard is rendered pork fat. Both are used to create a tender, flaky texture in baked goods, but they have different flavors and properties. Lard tends to be more flavourful and can impart a savoury note, while shortening is neutral in taste. Best, Rik

Luvly jubly mate. Rik, there is a pie shop where I grew up in The Dingle Area of Liverpool that still makes these, we were brought up on them and it's the old school that still goes there today. They are so tasty, I love them. The Potato with Spring onions is amazing, you soften the Onions in hot Milk and mix it with your Mash and Butter, the Irish call it Champ. Its Beautiful as it is, or fried into potato cakes. Give it a whirl, no effort and maximum taste 👍👍
