It might just be that her knives are very sharp. If your blade is sharp enough, you often will not feel it when it initially cuts you.

same thing happened to me. I was cutting a watermelon with one of my really sharp knives and I didn't even realized I cut myself until I felt something thick and sticky, that couldn't be juice.

I don't think she ever cooked before. She started earning at age 7 and was busy with school and work. So maybe when she was a teen and could handle fire and knives she just hired chefs. With quarantine she had she had so much time in hands so why not start learning to cook at the same time earn money.

Don’t know about her friends (they looked very inexperienced, genuinely), but I always thought Sel knew how to cook. Not expert, but she always says she loves food, so I assumed she knew somewhat her way in the kitchen. Perhaps it’s a bit of both?
